Introducing our 2024 keynote speakers... We’re so pleased to welcome two transformative voices of sustainability and environmental action to this year’s _shift conference. 🎙️ John Elkington - As the Founder & Chief Pollinator at Volans, John Elkington has been at the forefront of the sustainability movement for over 50 years. Known globally as "The Godfather of Sustainability," John has shaped the corporate responsibility landscape, advising businesses and inspiring initiatives like the B Team, the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes, and B Lab UK. His influential work on frameworks such as the "Triple Bottom Line" and his recent book, Green Swans: The Coming Boom in Regenerative Capitalism, continue to inspire systemic change. John's contributions to sustainable development have left an indelible mark across industries and regions. John has addressed over 1,500 conferences around the world and this November, adds _shift to the list. 🌊 Emily Penn - An ocean advocate, skipper and impassioned expert on plastic pollution, for 15 years Emily has been at the helm of change: putting the plastics issue on the map. She graduated from Cambridge with a degree in Architecture and a job offer in Australia, but, after rounding the globe on the record-breaking biofuelled boat Earthrace, her life changed forever. Emily founded eXXpedition, a series of all-women sailing voyages, on a mission to help people grasp the true challenge of ocean plastic pollution, so they can use their skills to solve it from sea to source. She’s sailed 80,000 miles - from the tropics to the Arctic - leading voyages that have changed science and lives. She’s inspired and worked with everyone from community leaders to CEOs and scientists to heads of state. In 2021 she was awarded the British Empire Medal by the Queen. This year marks the third annual _shift conference – Space Group's event dedicated to decarbonising in the built environment. Join us in the North East on November 7th for a full day of inspiring discussions and actionable insights aimed at catalysing climate action. With 30 days to go, there is still time to register your interest... https://lnkd.in/e6pCdcux #shift2024 #BuiltEnvironment #Event #Decarbonise

Catherine Sinclair from SPACE Architects will once again be joining us at _shift 2024, speaking on one of our panels, which will bring embodied carbon into the spotlight. In this, our latest _shifting mindsets article, "Empowering Change in the Built Environment with Climate Conferences Like _shift," Catherine highlights the critical role our industry plays in addressing greenhouse gas emissions within the UK. With voluntary embodied carbon targets now set by UK construction professionals, it's more important than ever to foster collaboration and share strategies for implementing these targets. Catherine goes on to highlight how climate-focused conferences like _shift create invaluable spaces for meaningful discussions that drive real change. Catherine's work as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership Associate at SPACE Architects exemplifies her personal commitment and impact as she leads initiatives that will further advance the industry's knowledge of embodied carbon. Check out Catherine's article and join us at _shift 2024 to continue the conversation and find out more about how we can individually and collectively tackle embodied carbon. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/e6pCdcux #shift2024 #BuiltEnvironment #Event #Decarbonise

Space Group reposted this
Supported by SPACE Architects, Space Group's annual _shift conference returns on November 7th 2024. With buildings contributing to 40% of global greenhouse gas emissions, and these emissions expected to double by 2050 without intervention, our conference provides a necessary platform for exploring and implementing strategies to keep global warming below the 1.5°C threshold. Now in its third year, _shift, remains focused on decarbonising the built environment, bringing together key players and innovators for meaningful discussions that drive transformative action. On November 7th, you can expect inspirational presentations from inspiring speakers such as John Elkington and Emily Penn, in-depth panel discussions, and networking opportunities with fellow professionals committed to climate action. Please note that while _shift is a free-to-attend event, registration is essential.
