University experts warn Labour North Sea plan 'could slow transition' The UK Government's proposals to extend the Energy Profits Levy (EPL) on North Sea oil and gas activities will see investment in new fields - particularly small ones - reduced, according to economists. Professor John Underhill of the University of Aberdeen has warned that removing investment allowances could slow down the energy transition. 👉 Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/ehaAfBey #northsea #aberdeen #aberdeenshire #northsea

Concerns over tax are preying on the minds of North-east businesses, with just under a fortnight until the Chancellor unveils her Budget. The results drawn from Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce’s latest Quarterly Economic Survey, launched today, show concerns over taxation have rocketed up the risk register for firms in the region – with 61% of companies in the North-east citing this as a barrier to growth, up from 48% just three months ago. The numbers showed a marked divergence on this key indicator between North-east Scotland and the rest of the country with a thirteen percentage points variance, as the region braces for yet another tax raid on the energy sector. AGCC Chief Executive Russell Borthwick sits down with Findlay Anderson, Partner at Gilson Gray LLP and QES sponsor, to discuss and share their reflections on the latest survey results in a new episode of ChamberTalk.
