If you needed a reason to meet us at #InnoTrans2024, check this out: a renowned OEM has just announced that 700 circuit board designs used across multiple fleets in North America are now obsolete. The train manufacturer is under pressure from operators and transit agencies, who require thousands of these boards to remain in service for decades to come. We've been called to work with the U.S. hub to train and equip local staff so that any faulty PCB from this group of 700 designs are properly repaired rather than thrown away to keep inventory at an acceptable level as replacements are no longer available from the manufacturer. So, if your company is serious about #sustainability and obsolescence mitigation, let's connect next week to avoid all the massive pressure this U.S. company is facing right now! #RepairDontWaste #ukmfg #electronics #repair #pcb #rail #railindustry #rollingstock #train #circulareconomy

Sustainable mobility sounds amazing but the amount of E-waste the rail industry produces due to the lack of repair capabilities is truly shocking. The world produces over 60 million tonnes of E-waste per year with rail being a large-scale contributor. Electrification will require even more equipment to be built into trains that should last 30 years but what happens when technology becomes obsolete? People will try to sell the idea that "new equipment saves energy thus we should embrace it" while warehouses are being filled with parts that still have decades of life left in them, shut behind closed doors and branded "biohazardous waste" so people don't go looking! For 40 years, ABI has been a leading repair enabler manufacturing systems that empower technology users to diagnose, repair and recover tonnes of circuit boards that would have been thrown away just because a capacitor or IC failed. Over 65 rail companies have invested in ABI solutions, joined the Repair, Don't Waste! movement and are now saving millions of dollars that would have gone into buying new equipment creating unnecessary emissions and waste. Become independent from OEMs by developing in-house repair capabilities with ABI! Meet our team at InnoTrans 2024 from the 24th to the 27th September in Berlin. Get in touch with our business manager Willian Santos 🇬🇧 to set up a meeting. #RepairDontWaste #ukmfg #InnoTrans2024 #rail #electronics #railway #sustainability #mobility #circulareconomy

Brilliant post for our Portuguese-speaking followers showing how Stellantis Brazil is reducing #Ewaste and costs by repairing in a few hours - rather than throwing away - complex #electronics, robotics and automation equipment used in the assembly line in Betim, Minas Gerais with a little help from ABI's #BoardMaster. Great job Carlos Braz and Rafael Barreto! #Repairdontwaste #ukmfg #electronics #sustainability #circulareconomy #pcb #ev

The UK is taking a significant step toward cleaner rail transport with the testing of Hitachi's new Battery Intercity Train. This pioneering technology promises a more eco-friendly alternative for long-distance travel, particularly on non-electrified routes. These battery-powered trains are an approach to removing diesel-powered trains from the rail network and meet net-zero sustainability goals by 2030. However, along with the benefits of meeting sustainability goals comes a host of technical and operational challenges that need careful consideration. One of the key risks lies in the complexity of the electronics that control these trains due to being fully electric. The sophisticated systems added to manage battery power, propulsion, and safety make the trains highly reliant on the robustness of their onboard electronics. Any malfunction in these systems could lead to service delays or even serious operational hazards. Introducing an effective maintenance program close to the point of use can mitigate these risks, ensuring reliability and minimizing downtime. Ensuring the reliability of these electronics is crucial, but as we've seen with EVs, these complex systems can be prone to faults, particularly when exposed to the demanding conditions of daily use in transportation. Battery degradation is a challenge that these new trains share with EVs. Repeated charging and discharging cycles can gradually reduce battery efficiency, impacting range and performance. Maintaining battery health will require ongoing monitoring and proactive maintenance strategies, similar to those used for electric cars. Additionally, while current electrification infrastructure can be used to charge these batteries, it must be capable of handling the increased capacity demands of these new battery trains. A reliable, high-capacity electrification network is crucial for keeping the trains operational. Any disruptions in the charging process could lead to costly delays or service interruptions, similar to issues faced in the EV charging network. At ABI Electronics, we are uniquely positioned to help address these challenges with the solutions we offer such as the BoardMaster and RevEng. Our advanced diagnostic tools can help identify faults before they cause major issues, ensuring that the onboard systems run smoothly and efficiently. By working closely with the rail industry, ABI Electronics aims to offer innovative solutions to ensure the long-term success of battery-powered trains, helping the transportation sector move toward a more sustainable future. I am super excited to be heading back to Berlin for #InnoTrans2024! Over the last 20 years, ABI electronic troubleshooting and reverse engineering systems have stopped truckloads of railway electronics from being scrapped saving millions for rail operators and OEMs. As digitalisation and electrification become widespread so will the need for electronics which we all know become obsolete far too quickly. Throwing them away just because a capacitor or IC failed is not an option in any Net Zero and ESG-committed business so let's meet up and work to ensure that no longer bins will be filled with circuit boards or damaged equipment hidden from your clients' eyes as "hazardous" waste! 🤦♂️ Drop me a message to schedule a meeting between the 24th and 27th of September at InnoTrans! Case studies: OEM makes braking controller board obsolete before train fleet launches https://lnkd.in/gwYkzZYH Alstom continues to decentralise electronic repairs with 12 locations already using ABI systems https://lnkd.in/e3BcCsDJ #RepairDontWaste #ukmfg #electronics #repair #PCB #sustainability #circulareconomy #NetZero #mobility
