  • Celebrating the Accord STEM program in the North East. Our Fawdon site recently secured a joint £50 million deal with the government in 2024; this investment will focus on the manufacture and production of high-quality, life-saving medicines at our facility and is expected to create over 50 new skilled jobs and ensure the long-term future of the facility in the North East. We are very passionate about creating valuable opportunities for people in Newcastle upon Tyne and the wider North East region and ensuring that the local community benefits from this investment. Our STEM outreach program, led by Nina Gray and Siobhan Alderson, supports this by engaging children and young people and showcasing the diverse career opportunities at our site. #CareersInStem #AccordHealthcare #STEM #WomenInSTEM (s)

  • Our Journey to a Sustainable Future 🌍   At Accord, we are deeply invested in our responsibility to create a positive impact on our patients, communities, environment, and the planet.   Our mission drives us to effect meaningful change across our manufacturing sites. In 2024, Accord Barnstaple made significant strides by diverting an impressive 531 tonnes of mixed waste from landfill sites. This achievement included recycling 161 tonnes of cardboard and paper, 53.8 tonnes of plastic, and 3.6 tonnes of aluminum, demonstrating our dedication to responsible waste management.   Similarly, Accord Fawdon showcased its commitment by recycling 83.7 tonnes of cardboard, 182.7 tonnes of shredded paper and card, 54.9 tonnes of metal, and 73.6 tonnes of plastic.   Together, these are just some of the efforts that reflect our determination to protect the environment and build a sustainable future for all. #WorldRecyclingDay (s)

  • A conversation about prostate cancer from a patient’s perspective As we continue to mark Prostate Cancer Awareness month, we sat down with patient advocate Steve Allen to have a conversation to understand his experiences of diagnosis, living with the disease, the impact it has on your life and family and the huge importance of recognising the signs and symptoms and seeking medical advice as early as possible. Steve was diagnosed with prostate cancer 16 years ago. A retired healthcare professional himself, it still didn’t prepare him for the impact of the disease on him. He now dedicates his time to supporting others going through the same experience and we hope you find this conversation accessible and engaging. #Generic medicines are the backbone of European healthcare, accounting for 7 out of 10 dispensed medicines and 9 out of 10 critical medicines—yet they make up only 19% of the pharmaceutical market value. Despite their essential role, the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system in the Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive (UWWTD) places a disproportionate financial burden on generic medicine manufacturers. This threatens their long-term sustainability, increases the risk of medicine #shortages, and puts patient health at risk. To protect #access to affordable, high-quality medicines, Medichem supports fair and balanced measures to ensure the continued availability of essential treatments for #patients across #Europe. 📢 Medicines for Europe supports legal action from ten of its members against provisions in the Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive which puts access to medicines at risk. Generic medicines are the backbone of European healthcare systems, representing 7/10 dispensed medicines and 9/10 critical medicines while accounting for just 19% of pharmaceutical market value. The Extended Producer Responsibility system in the UWWTD disproportionately affects the producers of generic medicines. The increased cost from these risks makes them commercially unviable, causing medicine shortages and putting patients and public health at risk. Read the full announcement: https://buff.ly/shJbpSw

  • Putting the patient at the centre this Prostate Cancer Awareness month This #ProstateCancerAwarenessMonth, we are highlighting the importance of talking about men’s health. At Accord, we understand the importance of open dialogue and knowledge-sharing around #ProstateCancer. Honest conversations and shared experiences can empower the prostate cancer community to ask important questions, make informed decisions and navigate their journey with confidence. Sometimes, symptoms or side effects of treatment can be seen as embarrassing; go unspoken about; become "unmentionable”. However, discussing them is vital for men to understand their options and get support tailored to their unique needs. That's why we are collaborating with men with lived experiences of prostate cancer, to support and amplify these vital conversations, which in turn can encourage and empower men to speak openly about their health, needs and condition with their medical team, that encourages shared decision making. Stay tuned for more on this – coming soon! (s)

  • At Accord, we firmly believe in the power of nurturing and supporting our female colleagues. We support the movement in demanding fairer, equitable, diverse and inclusive environments for all and have given a lot of thought to making sure our policies, culture and leadership reflect that. Clara Carter, our UK Country Manager Generics is also the inaugural chair of the British Generic Manufacturers Association (BGMA) Women’s Network and spoke to Citeline Commercial Generics Bulletin to mark this important day. She said “My vision for this network is to nurture a space that encourages our members to celebrate each other's achievements and showcase integrity, passion and kindness, coupled with sharing experiences and ideas to build confidence. It’s key that we support women in leadership, business, STEM and decision-making. As the first elected chair of this group, I believe it will empower and elevate women in the pharmaceutical industry and promote equity by fostering and nurturing a community that promotes leadership, innovation, and professional and personal development.” Happy International Women’s Day from all of us at Accord. #AccordHealthcare #InternationalWomensDay2025 #AccelerateAction https://lnkd.in/enM3bFzs (S)

  • It's British Science Week until March 16th, and we are celebrating the Accord #STEM program in Fawdon, which engages young people and encourages them to pursue careers in STEM. Research conducted for British Science Week in 2022 revealed that less than 1 in 5 (17%) 14–18-year-olds in the North East of England are interested in a career in science. The Accord STEM Program, led by Nina Gray and Siobhan Alderson in Fawdon, aims to change this by showcasing the wide range of career opportunities available at our site for children and young people. #BritishScienceWeek #CareersInSTEM #AccordHealthcare (s)
