At our 2024 International Health Lecture, co-hosted with The Lancet, experts discussed the role that cities can play in addressing climate action and improving public health. “Madrid’s climate in 2050 will resemble Marrakech’s climate today.” said keynote speaker Professor Nieuwenhuijsen, highlighting the urgent need for cities to prioritise health while reducing CO2 emissions. In an article published today, Health Policy Watch capture critical conversations from our lecture. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/epx38eW2 Thank you again to the Professor Nieuwenhuijsen and our expert panel for sharing their knowledge and helping to drive vital conversation on cities, climate, and health. For a deeper dive into these conversations, The Lancet published the full content from the lecture, which can be found here: https://lnkd.in/ecg6W-H3 #ClimateHealth #ClimateAction #ClimateChange #UrbanPlanning #UrbanHealth #IHL24

A massive thank you to the 700+ people who joined us in person and online yesterday, for our International Health Lecture with The Lancet on ‘Climate crisis, cities and health’. Professor Mark J Nieuwenhuijsen (Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal)) highlighted the opportunities in cities to tackle climate change, from sustainable urban models around the world, to a shift to public and active transport. Our expert panel, including Marina Belén Romanello, PhD (The Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change), Niheer Dasandi (University of Birmingham), and Dr Maria Neira (World Health Organization) explored the crucial role of health practitioners in the #ClimateHealth conversation, the unique political opportunities for action in cities, and how a health framing of #ClimateChange can better engage the public. Thank you to Professor Richard Horton OBE FRCP FMedSci, Editor-in-Chief of The Lancet, and Professor Tom Solomon CBE FRCP FMedSci, Vice President (International) at the Academy of Medical Sciences, for co-hosting.
