Helene has intensified to Category 2 overnight and continues to strengthen as it moves north-northeast towards Florida's Big Bend. Favorable conditions, including warm sea surface temperatures, low wind shear, and strong upper-level dynamics, support further intensification today. Helene is expected to make landfall tonight or early Friday as a Category 3 hurricane, with potential for even greater strength. Due to its large size, widespread impacts are anticipated far from the storm’s center, with damaging winds, life-threatening storm surges, and heavy rainfall. The storm’s unusually fast speed for its magnitude means inland regions, including the southern Appalachian Mountains, could experience significant effects, such as hurricane-force wind gusts and extreme rainfall. Our Toronto team recently participated in a Food Sorting Volunteer Day in support of our Charity of the Year, Daily Bread Food Bank. After touring the facility and learning about their impactful work, we spent the afternoon packaging 1,046 lbs of granola for distribution to food banks across the Greater Toronto Area. With food bank usage at an all-time high in Canada, we’re proud to play a part in supporting this cause. To date, we’ve contributed over $16,700 to help Daily Bread’s mission to eliminate food insecurity and advocate for solutions to end poverty. We’re also honored to be nominated for the Daily Bread Food Bank’s "Best in Class" Workplace Champion Award, recognizing our efforts to raise awareness and drive social change through workplace initiatives.

Hannah Raine, VP of Analytics at Acrisure Re, recently spoke at the U35’s 2024 Back to Basics technical lecture series at Lloyd's. Presenting to an audience of over 100 young professionals in the iconic Lloyd’s library, Hannah covered key topics on pricing and modelling. Hannah's presentation offered a comprehensive overview of "Experience and Exposure" pricing, while also shedding light on the purpose and limitations of modelling. Hannah also shared valuable insights into the role of an actuary, highlighting the differences between working at a brokerage versus a reinsurance company.
