Yesterday, we shared photos of the newly installed Steel Soldiers proudly standing by the River Thames, as part of our annual Steel Soldiers campaign supporting the Army Benevolent Fund (ABF). This initiative helps raise crucial funds for soldiers and their families. To mark the campaign’s launch in 2021, we gifted 26 Silhouette Soldiers for Remembrance Day in Purfleet, honouring fallen heroes with a striking riverside tribute. Vision Ltd generously installed these statues at no cost, creating a memorable display. Unfortunately, three statues were vandalised beyond repair this summer. Determined to restore the installation, we created replacements, with Vision Ltd stepping in once more to reinstall them - along with an additional statue commemorating a previously untold story. We’re delighted to see that Steel soldier structures in Purfleet have been replaced in time for Remembrance Day. The structures were damaged over the summer, but have now been replaced by our ACS Stainless Steel Fixings team with the support of Vision Construction Limited. ACS supports local communities across the UK by creating free-of-charge Steel Silhouette Soldiers for Remembrance Day each year. In 2021, Purfleet was recipient to some of the statues – with 26 of the structures standing proudly by the Thames. During the summer, the structures were vandalised, with one of the silhouettes – a tribute to the UK’s fallen heroes – ripped from the ground and thrown into the river, whilst a further two were damaged beyond repair. Our Managing Director David Flannery said: “We were contacted by the Purfleet on Thames community forum with the sad news and gladly agreed to replace the damaged soldiers. We’ve also created an additional soldier to represent a newly discovered gunner who was born in Purfleet and died during WWI – known and honoured now as Gunner Sheringham. “The new soldiers were installed in time for the Purfleet on Thames community forum’s Remembrance Sunday service which was held yesterday, and I hope that this restored tribute will remain in place for local people to commemorate their fallen heroes for many years to come.” Richard Brealey Vision Construction Ltd David Flannery
