About us
Action Medical Research is a UK-wide charity funding vital research to help sick and disabled babies and children. We fight for answers that can lead to cures, treatments and medical breakthroughs for some of the toughest fights our children face. Since we began in 1952, we have been funding medical breakthroughs and almost everyone has been touched in some way by our groundbreaking work - like the first polio vaccines in the UK, ultrasound in pregnancy and the rubella vaccine. Today, we continue to find and fund the very best medical research to help stop the suffering of babies and children caused by disease and disability. Did you know we are also Paddington Bear’s favourite UK charity? He has been our official mascot since 1976, when our founder Duncan Guthrie met Paddington’s creator Michael Bond.

Climb The Capital was never going to be an average stair climb, or an average event! Taking place on Saturday, participants took part in the highest stairclimbing event like this in the UK, covering The Cheesegrater, The Scalpel, and The Walkie-Talkie with more than 3180 steps across 125 floors… It was also a huge collaboration project working with a fantastic team - Georgina Pedley from Liberty, my colleague Toby Tennant, Anna Wall-Budden from Over The Wall Camp and Eleanor Western. We also wanted the event to include members from the Worldrunning Tower Association – with the fastest participant joining us from Japan to complete the entire three buildings in 13 minutes and 34 seconds! This event has been a labour of love and it was so wonderful to see it all come together at the weekend, and more than that watch everyone have a great time while raising money for Action Medical Research and so many wonderful causes. A true feel good day! A huge thank you to our wonderful supporters at Liberty Specialty Markets, without whom this event wouldn’t have been possible, along with Savills and all the team’s across each building. We are so grateful for your support! #ClimbTheCapital #Fundraising #ClimbForACause #Charity #OneStepAtATime #TheSkysTheLimit #ReachForTheStars #AnymoreStairPuns?

In a courageous response to his ongoing battle with stage 4 cancer, long term friend and supporter of Action Medical Research is launching a bold new fundraising challenge – ‘Cancer My Arse!’ Kevin Griffiths, an avid cyclist, is no longer able to sit comfortably in the saddle of his bike due to invasive surgery. Refusing to give up his passion, he devised a creative challenge: Participants will ride as far as they can without sitting down, to show support and raise funds for Action, Cancer Research UK (CRUK) & Bowel Cancer UK. Good luck and thank you from everyone at Action, Kevin! You are doing amazing work to inspire and get people involved in a fun and unique challenge. 👍 Find out on how you can to participate, donate or simply help spread the word at www.cancermyarse.co.uk. David Harvey is taking part in the Ziggurat networking ride this week. Here is why Action Medical Research is a cause close to his heart: “Last year my daughter carried a high risk pregnancy to full-term, only because of advances in medical knowledge and chemistry. Unfortunately she then endured a crash c-section birth, again requiring all that successful research can provide. Today we have a miraculous adorable grandson, Sebastian, and a healthy daughter/ mother. That is why I ride – to raise much needed funding for Action Medical Research.” Ziggurat is the annual cycling adventure for folk from the constructions and built environment sector who share a passion for cycling and may not be averse to doing a bit of networking from the saddle. This year around 60 riders will be on a tour of Tuscany, all in support of life-changing medical research. Follow our channels for live updates from Tuscany ➡ https://lnkd.in/eSiA3NtS. Thank you to our sponsors Maylim, Day Group Ltd, Brett Group, HERBOSCH-KIERE, SIG Construction Accessories. #cyclinglife #CyclingFundraiser #builtenvironment #ziggurat2024
