We've been continuing to drive conversations about systems leadership and place-based working and this week our National Director of Systems Leadership, Debbie Sorkin, has been at the forefront of this work. Yesterday, Debbie held the latest webinar in the Systems Leadership series for Active Derbyshire and Active Notts, focusing on Leading in Uncertainty and Developing Personal and Team Resilience. Huge thanks to James Cook, Katie Crockett and all the participants for engaging so fully. Debbie also delivered a thought-provoking webinar as part of the NHS North East London Foundation Trust's 'Future of Primary Care' series on 'Building Trust to Increase Primary Care Resource' this week. She explored the challenging context in which primary care operates today, shared insights on working in complexity, and emphasised the importance of building trust, allies and influence. Drawing from her extensive experience across the UK, Debbie also provided real-world examples of how these approaches have successfully worked in various regions. Many thanks to Dr Mohit Venkataram and NELFT for the kind invitation to contribute to such an important topic. Luckily, if you missed it, you can still catch up! 👇 https://lnkd.in/eGEaT-TP

Sport Welfare Officer, Franky attended a #VoicesInSport conference last week which helps to raise awareness of some of the stories of abuse in Sport and share resources around safeguarding. Franky said: "Recently many of us attended a 'Voices in Sport' conference which shared survivor and lived experience of abuse within sport. The conference was very hard hitting and we heard about the incredible journeys of those that have suffered emotional, sexual and physical abuse whilst pursuing their dream of 'being the best'. "Sport England are emphasising the importance of hearing these voices to inform the necessary changes in sport environments for enhanced safety and well being. They shared a resource to support us all in implementing effective practice to combat abuse. NWG Network did an amazing job in developing these resources and they continue to offer support and training for all - much of it is free too! "Take time to view the resources, https://lnkd.in/ea7q4Dhz they may just prevent someone else suffering the same as others have in the past... Let's take action now"

Sport England is investing in Derby, specifically in those places where it is hardest to be active. Physical activity is vital for our physical and mental health, from walking to work to playing sports with friends. But not all of us have the same opportunities to be active. When children don’t have safe spaces to run and play, when adults are working long hours and constantly worrying about making ends meet, it makes it harder to be active and healthy.  Through placed-based working we can work deeply in a place, developing meaningful partnerships with communities and the organisations that support them – this is why we are calling the work ‘Place Partnerships’. With these partnerships in place, we can better co-design opportunities which make it easier for residents to be active when they step out of their homes. To achieve this, we need to:  - work together, from community members to voluntary organisations to local government.  - build networks and develop relationships in place  - break down the barriers that get in the way of being active.  - strengthen communities in a way that is reflective of their unique needs, relationships and geography. This is why we're looking to build extra capacity in Derby to support this work. Our current opportunities are Derby Place Partnership Lead (Move More Derby) (£55,385 p/a / 24 month fixed-term contract / Deadline for applications 8/9/2024) This role will lead the Place Partnership work in Derby. Building strong collaboration across a wide range of partner organisations, the focus will be on creating the culture and environment for change, reflecting the needs of communities and their barriers to being active. https://lnkd.in/emHWRf2K Derby Place Partnership Health Lead (Move More Derby) (£36,910 / 24 month fixed-term contract / Deadline for applications 29/9/2024) As part of the wider Place Partnership work in Derby, this role will work closely with a range of health partners and community organisations. The focus will be on embedding physical activity into health inequalities work and influencing health strategy and policy. https://lnkd.in/eEkyFnVv Find out more about the wider Place Partnerships work and opportunities at https://lnkd.in/e3ChA9j6

Statement from Active Derbyshire After taking some time to reflect, Active Derbyshire would like to say that we're appalled by and condemns the violent, racist and Islamophobic disorder we’ve recently seen across the country. Derby and Derbyshire is wonderfully diverse place and we are proud to work with people from all backgrounds and communities who come together to take part in sport, physical activity and movement, and we are saddened that those who live active lives have been impacted. Although it has been a challenging period, we have also seen glimmers of light and hope. We have heard the people who have spoken up in support of their friends, neighbours and colleagues and we are proud of the many stands of solidarity that have been seen. We have seen the acts of kindness within communities, and we have huge respect for the tireless work that all of our public services, communities, faith groups and the voluntary sector have been doing to keep everyone safe under such difficult circumstances. As part of a large network of organisations, we truly believe in the power of sport and physical activity to bring people together and unite communities and we will continue to focus on this in the coming weeks and months. We’ll also continue to champion community cohesion and inclusion, shining a light on the amazing people from all backgrounds that we are proud to work with and support.
