Over the next few weeks, ahead of our Awards ceremony on Thursday 7 November, we're shining the spotlight on our deserving finalists for the Lincolnshire Sport & Physical Activity Awards. Today meet our Active Change Award Finalists. The Active Change award sponsored by Lincolnshire Community Foundation celebrates individuals who have used sport or physical activity to positively change their lives. Our three finalists have all shown amazing commitment to personal change and growth overcoming personal challenges to transform their lives through physical activity. 🌟 Ellie Andrew has positively transformed both her mental and physical health by attending wheelchair basketball sessions with Jaguars WBC Ellie has struggled with her mental health since her teens. Attending wheelchair basketball is her 'happy place'. Taking part in NK Jaguars has helped build up her confidence, provided her with more independence, and given her motivation to recover. 🌟 Leah Downes is another attendee of Jaguars WBC. Leah, who has Spina bifida attended her first Wheelchair Basketball session with Jaguars Wheelchair Basketball Club in July 2023. From an initial reluctance to attend, Leah has developed a passion for the sport and it has truly transformed her life, building up her levels of physical activity, and boosting her confidence. 🌟Tommy Thompsett was referred to a cardiac rehabilitation programme at One NK leisure centre following a cardiac event. At each class he got fitter and stronger, until he progressed to an individual exercise programme at the gym and joined a over 50s sports group. His own journey back to fitness inspired him to embark on a ‘Row for Life’ challenge to ‘give something back’ by raising money for the Cardiac team. The sponsors of the Lincolnshire Sport & Physical Activity Awards are crucial in allowing us to put on our annual community awards to celebrate the inspiring people and wonderful work happening across the county in sport and physical activity. Over the next couple of weeks, we're going to be shining a spotlight on some of our sponsors to say thank you for their generosity. Today we'd like to say Thank you to our Active Change Award sponsor Lincolnshire Community Foundation Lincolnshire Community Foundation is the County’s leading independent grant maker. They have distributed over £18M to over 4,000 charities, community groups and organisations throughout our county. These grants have helped tackle issues such as child poverty, loneliness and isolation, food poverty, homelessness, access to services, addiction, unemployment and many other crucial local needs. Find out more about them on their website: https://lnkd.in/eFANhKrN Read about the Active Change award and our inspiring finalists for this event here: https://lnkd.in/ecVWv-9j We still have some sponsorship opportunities available, please do get in touch if you would be interested in coming on board to support the awards. #LSPAA

For #NationalInclusionWeek we wanted to share our recently published Diversity and Inclusion Action plan (DIAP), Beyond Inclusion: our commitment to tackling inequalities. The plan provides context for our commitment to an inclusive organisational culture, workforce, and Board, and championing and enabling diversity and inclusion across the sport and physical activity sector. As the @sport-england funded lead organisation to deliver the national ‘Uniting the Movement’ strategy in Lincolnshire, we are taking responsibility for supporting the local system to together tackle the inequalities that exist in access to and participating in sport and physical activity. We know this must start with a commitment to diversity, inclusion and learning across our organisation, through our people, our leadership, our culture, and our governance. As well as in our role in disseminating and influencing the wider physical activity, sport and leisure sector and advocating for greater inclusion and diversity.

We were pleased to work with M2 - Where Movement & Mindfulness Meet to deliver their programme aimed at encouraging girls to increase their confidence and enjoy participating in sport and physical activity. Take a look at the case study from Southview Primary school in South Holland.

There are so many discussions (rightly so) about how to ensure women and girls feel comfortable, safe and welcome being physically active - whether it be on a sports team, in a dance class or a run/walk/jog around a local park. We need to build that foundation from a young age and equip girls to take their movement journey in whichever direction works best for them. Evidence from our programmes that ran in Southview Primary School show the return on investments in young girls and keeping them physically active. This funding investment, from Active Lincolnshire and Jane Tomlinson Appeal allowed girls in Year 3 and 4 to either start their M2 experience with Curriculum or continue it with Curriculum 2. The outcomes: ✅ Increased confidence of all girls within sport and with making new friends ✅ Increased fitness levels ✅ Great teamwork displayed by the girls and understanding of each other’s abilities ✅ Increased desire to try new tasks and keep going Read the full story here. https://bit.ly/M2SVP23924
