There are 16 million disabled people in the UK. It is not fair that disabled people continue to miss out on the physical, social, and health and wellbeing benefits of being active. We released our manifesto six months ago and it is still as relevant as ever. We will continue to fight for fairness - working together with partners to create more meaningful and lasting change for disabled people. We call upon the Government to: 1. Protect the benefits. Provide clearer understanding and wider safeguarding to reassure disabled people that being regularly active will not threaten their social security and other forms of government financial assistance. 2. Equip health and care workers. With NHS, ensure that better processes are in place for health and care workers to support disabled people to use physical activity in ways which work best for them. 3. Increase accessible outdoor spaces. Take a leading role in promoting and legislating design standards that ensure accessibility in local and national spaces. Today the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rt Hon Rachel Reeves, set out the UK Government’s first Budget of spending and financial plans. In response, our CEO, Adam Blaze, said: “Six months ago we released our manifesto, calling upon the new government to put inclusion at its heart. We showed our concern against the previous government’s plan to modify the work capability assessment and cuts to benefits. Today, we heard this will continue and we are extremely worried that disabled people will be the most punished in the move to cut public spending. We will support any consultations and submissions needed around this but urge government to invest in the infrastructure to make society a better place to live and work." Our #ActivityAllianceSurvey is the primary source of insight for organisations working to achieve fairness for disabled people in sport and activity. This year's survey shows that disabled people often feel over-looked and under-represented in many areas including the sport and physical activity workforce. We are very keen to increase opportunities for disabled people in sport and fitness. On our website we have a 'jobs board' that lists paid and voluntary opportunities across organisations that focus on sport, leisure and fitness. New jobs are added every week and below are four of the most recent ones. If you have an employment opportunity to promote, we would love to hear from you. Let's work together to increase job opportunities for disabled people. Submit a job using the form on our website:

Today we’ve launched our new strategy for grassroots football following our most comprehensive consultation with the grassroots game to date. The new four-year strategy will support the continued growth and development of the grassroots game and volunteer workforce and includes investing in more new quality grass pitches to reach our 12,000 target, and delivering 1,000 thriving community clubs. Increasing the number of female players by 50%, Disability Football players by 40% and tackling poor behaviours through robust sanctions are also addressed in new strategy which you can read in full below: https://lnkd.in/ejD8KSaX

We’re excited to announce that Swim Together sessions will soon be added to the Active Blackpool Get Out, Get Active timetable, in partnership with Mental Health Swims ! 🏊♀️🧠 #SwimTogether #MentalHealthMatters #WaterWellbeing Activity Alliance, Swim England
We are delighted to announce a new Swim Together partnership with Active Blackpool at their Palatine and Moor Park Health leisure centres. The partnership will see the launch of two new Swim Together peer support groups in the Blackpool area, supporting local people living with mental ill health. The aim of Swim Together is to create a peer support model that brings people together who are living with mental illness, or experiencing mental health challenges, for a swim in an indoor pool. The model echoes the successful Mental Health Swims peer support model, which brings people together outdoors to experience outdoor swimming. Jenny Fairfield, Active Communities Service Manager for Active Blackpool said: “The Active Blackpool team have been working hard over the past twelve months to become Water Wellbeing accredited with Swim England at both Palatine Leisure Centre and Moor Park Health Leisure Centre. After successfully gaining the accreditation earlier in the year, it has created an exciting opportunity for Active Blackpool to partner with Mental Health Swims on their Swim Together project. Ensuring we have the right environment to increase the accessibility and use of our pools is extremely important to us, so this partnership felt like the perfect fit. “The introduction of Swim Together sessions will be pivotal in supporting our residents who are living with mental illness, or experiencing mental health challenges, by bringing people together in a supportive, inclusive environment. The Active Blackpool Get Out, Get Active team are working closely with social prescribers across Blackpool to co-deliver the sessions, which wouldn’t of been possible without the support and training provided by Mental Health Swims. We’re excited to see the impact the sessions have on our residents, by improving access to the water and the mental and physical health benefits associated with swimming.” Rachel Ashe, Founder and Managing Director of Mental Health Swims added: “We are thrilled to be partnering with Active Blackpool at their Palatine and Moor Park Health sites. Swim Together empowers leisure providers to host safe and welcoming mental health peer support swimming sessions for their local communities. The sessions are designed to make peer support more accessible to a wide range of people and Active Blackpool have excellent facilities to host a Swim Together group. We are looking forward to working with Active Blackpool over the next 12months and are excited to see their Swim Together groups grow.” Active Blackpool will soon be announcing the dates for their Swim Together sessions but if you would like to find out more or register for a session, please email: getoutgetactive@blackpool.gov.uk Andrew Power AMRSPH Ali Noyce Jennifer Fairfield Blackpool Council April Oldfield Swim England Rachel Ashe MBE Active Blackpool
