Aerospace Medicine at KCL reposted this
What a way to start 2025 and beat the January blues ☀️ I just completed the King's College London Basic Course in Aviation Medicine run by Pete Hodkinson, and it’s been a whirlwind intense 2 weeks ✈️ The course gave fascinating insights into physiology at altitude (my favorite!), mechanics of flying, spatial disorientation, accidents and investigations, food and hygiene regulations, human factors, and all the medical disciplines an aeromedical examiner must know to certify pilots and aircrew. We also had a (too brief for me 😅) taster of space medicine 🚀 🌍 I will never experience commercial flights in the same way, and learning all the fascinating things that go on in the background was a true eye-opener 😊 My 3 highlights: * Meeting doctors from all over the world, and helping each other out to study despite a busy schedule 👩🏼⚕️ 🧑🏽⚕️ 🏥 * Learning from expert speakers, who shared their enthusiasm for aviation medicine 📚 We even had a practical ophthalmology 👓 and ENT 👂 session! * Visiting the British Airways Training Facility was fascinating. We had briefings on how aircrew prepare for emergencies, including trialing the Airbus-320 escape slides (they’re high 😳), saw all the mock-ups of various cabins, visited the impressive lineup of flight simulators, and even each had a go at take-off, flying and landing the Boeing-777 under the supervision of very patient flight instructors 🛫 🤩🤩🤩 Can't wait for the advanced course in March!
