The Fragrance Laboratory: Aesop & Janet Laurence. Aesop Flinders Lane has been cleared of all products excluding fragrance and transformed into an immersive sensorial environment by artist Janet Laurence. The Fragrance Laboratory celebrates the alchemy of ingredients that lie behind our aromas, including new Virēre Eau de Parfum—an evocation of a verdant summer memory. If in Melbourne, do drop by before 7 October; otherwise, learn more about the installation at https://lnkd.in/eK8fuAyD.
About us
Aesop was established in Melbourne in 1987. Our objective has always been to formulate skin, body and hair care products of the finest quality, as well as fragrance and accessories for the self and home. All Aesop products are vegan. We do not test on animals and only use ingredients with a proven record of safety, efficacy and sustainability. We are on a journey to reduce our footprint on the planet that generously sustains us. So far, our progress has led to Aesop becoming a certified B Corp™. Alongside our commercial activities, we explore and support the arts as an avenue through which to inspire, learn and communicate. We are headquartered across two locations—Melbourne and London—with satellite offices and stores in many parts of the world, including New York, Paris, Tokyo and Hong Kong. Aesop has carefully cultivated a work environment in which our employees are constantly challenged to do their best. Our company is determinedly creative, intelligent and progressive, and nurtures these qualities by employing people who share our passionate interest in design, innovation, and incisive enquiry across all fields. Just as the ingredients in our products are carefully selected for their unique characteristics, so too are the individuals who work with us around the world – we value working with those who can bring a wealth of life experience and inspired ideas to our table.

Aesop Knightsbridge opened shortly after the dismantling of our installation at Salone del Mobile.Milano 2024, which used the pragmatic bar of soap as building material. In London, the very same slabs have been reconfigured into an enveloping structure, working around spatial restrictions to create a streamlined design. In a similar spirit of circularity, the basin and shelves were repurposed from previous stores—making this location a second home in more ways than one.

Seasonal opportunities in our stores and counters. Amid the frenetic pace of the festive season, our consultants provide customers with calm, efficient guidance. However bustling the space may be, they are trained to listen to a customer’s needs attentively and help find the appropriate item for their requirements—from a replenishing hydrator for the changing weather, to a gift that will inspire delight. If an honest and inclusive approach to sales sounds like it would make for an appealing work environment, you may like to explore our seasonal Retail Consultant opportunities here: https://lnkd.in/eGbzYn6h

Aesop Taichung—our first signature store in the city—is an homage to local fresh food markets. Designed with longstanding collaborators Torafu Architects, it centres on a communal basin encircling an existing pillar. Stacked modular hardboard boxes form the product shelves, while custom light fixtures reminiscent of market lamps hover above. A Fragrance Armoire—with a peachy hue evoking the sky at dawn—conceals our world of unconventional aromas.

A summer recalled: new Virēre Eau de Parfum. Our latest fragrance draws the mind back to a moment of treasured simplicity, evoking sun-warmed citrus fruits, fragrant fig trees and green tea to illuminate the transportive power of scent. Discover more about this fresh, unconventional aroma in-store or at aesop.com

Marking our second collaboration with Singapore Night Festival, an immersive olfactory installation titled ‘Scents of Being’ is unveiled at the National Design Centre until 7 September, exploring the intricate relationship between scent and self. Within a mystical forest, each of our eleven mesmeric Eaux de Parfum—whether inspired by myth, poetry, art or nature—acts much like a guiding light in the darkness, sparking curiosity and illuminating paths into uncharted realms.

Designed in collaboration with Atelier SuaSua, the serene space of Aesop Hangzhou is an ode to the city’s arching Gaohu stone bridges, with this materiality used from the facade to the interiors across columns, floor, and countertops. In the window, master artisan Wen Shishan, inheritor of the 250-year-old craft of oil-paper umbrellas, assembles bamboo ribs—a nod to the Yuhang oil-paper chandelier hanging above the central trough, which accommodates communal encounters.

Inhabiting a prominent corner on North London’s Upper Street, the second iteration of Aesop Islington illuminates the neighbourhood’s history. With salvaged London cast-iron lamp posts to light the way, undulating walls skim the circumference, echoing the arcs of the restored Victorian ceiling beams and columns. Keeping one foot in the past, 1950s wall lights provide welcoming illumination, while reclaimed bricks span the floor and counter units. Photography by Ollie Tomlinson. Architecture by our in-house design team.

In June, books by LGBTQIA+ authors filled the shelves of Aesop Soho in London for the Aesop Queer Library. Entitled ‘Multiple margins’, this year’s edition focused on stories from the intersection of queer and racial identities. Thank you to all who attended; may your chosen tome inspire fresh connections. Explore more here: https://lnkd.in/ekHcqmZS

In June the Aesop Queer Library returned to New York and Los Angeles, once again collaborating with the American Civil Liberties Union. This year’s edition championed local libraries as safe spaces where queer stories are—or rather should be—free to be discovered. The ACLU has been fighting censorship for over a century. Now it works to defend the right to read, learn, and discuss books by and about queer and BIPOC people in libraries, classrooms, and beyond. Explore more here: https://lnkd.in/eKVP7_gk
