We recently partnered with HAWA Multicultural Services CIC (HAWA) for a volunteering session, to help support women in our community! 🎉   HAWA support women from all different backgrounds across Hertfordshire, offering wellbeing services that aim to tackle isolation.  At Affinity Water, we're committed to working with our communities to create value for the local economy and society and we offer our employees up to four days per year during work time to use for volunteering. ⭐ The Habiba garden, one of the group’s focal points, had become overgrown and unusable. Members from our Women’s Network volunteered to restore it, so that it could once again be enjoyed by members. Rushna Miah, Director and Co-Founder of HAWA said, “Thank you for all your help and making a difference. Habiba Garden offers a delightful social space for women who are passionate about gardening. This nurturing environment promotes well-being and helps reduce loneliness and isolation.”  Big thanks to our volunteers for making a positive difference in our community! 🤩   https://lnkd.in/dNUkvYS4 Alex Farmer, Becky Pointer, Kay Walker, Anna Jarmolinska CEnv MIEMA, Notty Stone #companyculture #volunteeringdays #communitygarden #communitysupport

The Iver Environment Centre has won our competition to receive The Water Saving Garden, showcased at this year's RHS Chelsea Flower Show! 🌺 We launched this competition to give charities and community groups in our region a chance to be awarded the garden, in recognition of the amazing work that they do. 👩🌾 Located in the beautiful Colne Valley between Uxbridge and Slough, Iver Environment Centre has been enhancing the quality of life in local communities since 1990. This new garden will provide a tranquil, eco-friendly space for visitors to learn about water conservation, pollinators, and sustainable gardening. 💛 Thanks to all the brilliant groups and charities that entered, and congratulations again to the Iver Environment Centre. 👏 https://lnkd.in/eRZM4Kez #chelseaflowershow #savingwater #environment #sustainability

We were pleased to take Labour councillors Alistair Willoughby, Emma Rowe, Rhona Cameron and Stewart Willoughby, and Liberal Democrat councillor Tom Tyson, on a site tour around the River Ivel recently! 🌳 Our River Restoration work in the area is a big project, spanning across the last 4 years, and has included work to re-grade the riverbed and banks, introduce woody deflectors for flow variation, augment the channel with gravel and construct brush-wood berms to narrow the channel, creating flow diversity and a meandering channel. 💦 Councillor Alistair Willoughby said in his post: 'Huge thank you to Chloe Bench from Affinity Water for taking the Baldock Labour Councillor team around the reimagined River Ivel site this morning. The works are nearing completion with crystal clear water flowing beautifully through our local chalk stream. There is still more work to do but the site has been transformed over the last few years and we look forward to partnering still further with the Affinity Water team and RevIvel Association to achieve the final result and ensure its protection in the future.' 🌍 Learn more about our work on revitalising the River Ivel:  https://lnkd.in/ewxb2Thp #environment #sustainability #riverrestoration

We were delighted to welcome HRH The Prince of Wales and HRH The Duchess of Edinburgh to our stand at Groundswell Agriculture last week! It was a pleasure to discuss how regenerative farming systems can improve soil health and the benefits this can bring to water. Our team showcased the rainfall simulator, which provides a fantastic visualisation of how two inches of rainfall interacts with different soils and the impact this has on run-off. An insightful and memorable time at Groundswell 2024. 🎉 To find out more about Affinity Water's commitment to sustainability, visit: https://bit.ly/3zovz0N #regenerativefarming #soilhealth #sustainability

We had a great time back at Groundswell Agriculture, a leading regenerative agriculture event, as the headline sponsor for the 7th year! 👏 Since 2020, we’ve funded over 7,000 hectares of cover crops and companion crops to fix nutrients and improve soil health in our region. Soils farmed in a regenerative way can naturally hold more water, filter water, and provide a rich habitat for soil life to cycle nutrients for crop production, while protecting groundwater sources. 🌳 Our team demonstrated a Rainfall Simulator at the festival, showing the effect of two inches of rainfall on soils under different management regimes, helping the audience to visualise the impact on run-off. 🌧 Thanks to everyone who visited our Affinity stand, watched our Rainfall Simulator display, and collected one of our free water bottles! 💦 To find out more about our commitment to sustainability, visit https://bit.ly/4ebrZqX 📸 L-R: Our Director of Asset Strategy and Capital Delivery, Stephen Plumb, our CEO Keith Haslett, Danny Coffey, our Catchment Manager and Ellie Powers, our Head of Water Resources and Environment! #Groundswell2024 #RegenerativeAgriculture #Sustainability #CatchmentManagement

Today marks the 51st #WorldEnvironmentDay 🍃 This year, the focus is on restoring land, halting desertification, and building drought resilience. We’re celebrating the day by offering free tree saplings to our staff, encouraging everyone to plant them in their home gardens, in exchange for making an environmental pledge. The trees are small garden varieties, which are pollinator and wildlife friendly, with pledges including reducing single-use plastics and recycling as much as possible. Thanks to our colleagues for getting involved and making an environmental pledge! 🌊 Did you know that all the water we supply comes from rivers and groundwater aquifers in our local communities? 💧 We have an in-house Catchment Management team who work hard to understand how the land is being managed and the likely risks to water quality. But we don't stop there - we collaborate with local farmers to implement regenerative agriculture practices that improve soil health, build soil organic carbon, and reduce runoff into our rivers. 🌱 And we're proud sponsors of the Groundswell Agriculture festival for the 7th consecutive year 🎉 Groundswell is a two-day event happening on 26th and 27th June 2024 near Hitchin in Hertfordshire. It's an incredible opportunity for farmers, growers, and anyone passionate about food production and the environment to learn about the theory and practical applications of regenerative farming systems.
