Base Rate Update After the reduction of the base rate from 4.75% to 4.5%, the lowest it's been in over 4 years, we asked Alan Davison, our Chief Commercial Officer at Afin Bank for some thoughts and insights. Here's what he said:   📉Today’s 25bps cut to the Base Rate comes as no surprise—lenders have already started factoring it into their fixed-rate products.   ❔However, it does make me wonder if the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee would have preferred a bit more time to deliberate, given the looming risks of global economic turbulence caused by Donald Trump’s proposed trade tariffs.   🏠For now, lower mortgage rates will be welcomed by borrowers planning to buy or remortgage, especially those racing to beat the stamp duty threshold changes on April 1st.   ✂️Whether we’ll see further rate cuts, as some anticipated last year, remains uncertain. Inflation remains stubbornly high, and any global trade tensions could lead to further price hikes while impacting UK exports.   ⏱️The next month will be a critical time for the market and policymakers—it’s shaping up to be a real nail-biter.”   What are your thoughts on the Base Rate cut?
