About us
Building a future where we all thrive together. The Aga Khan Foundation (AKF), an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network, is a private, not-for-profit, non-denominational, international development agency established in 1967 by His Highness the Aga Khan. AKF brings together human, financial and technical resources to address some of the challenges faced by the poorest and most marginalised communities in the world. With an emphasis on women and girls, AKF invests in human potential, expanding opportunities and improving quality of life. AKF leads a range of integrated, innovative and gender sensitive interventions in agriculture and food security; civil society; climate resilience; early childhood development; education; health and nutrition; and work and enterprise. Interventions are informed by evidence, data, local knowledge and extensive networks of community-led institutions. Its activities are coordinated not only with those of other AKDN agencies but also with local, national and international partners in order to bring to bear a full package of multiple activities that can spark a long-term process of positive change. In addition, AKF often plays a convening, partnership development, policy dialogue and resource mobilisation role for the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) and its agencies.

🐄 Muradiljon’s work as a veterinary technician gives livestock farmers in his community access to essential animal care and breeding support. 💭 “Instead of keeping five ordinary cows, it’s better to keep three improved breed cows. This way, we can maintain income while reducing the negative impact on pastures, ecology, and the climate,” he explains. 💪 He has been building his veterinary skills since 2016 through AKF’s Local Impact programme, funded by USAID. 📍 Osh, Kyrgyz Republic

🌱 Facing unpredictable weather, pests, and water shortages, Simon turned to regenerative farming to restore soil health and combat challenges. With guidance from AKF-trained Green Champion Dorothy Mwende, he's saving $1,000 annually by making natural pesticides and manure, boosting his farm’s resilience. 💪 #RegenerativeFarming #ClimateResilience #SustainableAgriculture

Hear from AKF's Director of Institutional Partnerships on why we work with the International Development Association (IDA) to enhance social protection and support economies across Africa and Asia 👇 The World Bank | Matt T. Reed | #IDA21
Global Director of Institutional Partnerships at Aga Khan Foundation & CEO, Aga Khan Foundation (UK)
I represented the Aga Khan Foundation at The World Bank Annual meetings last week, where I was asked to speak about the International Development Association (IDA) - the World Bank’s low-cost loans for developing countries. IDA is one of the best bargains in development: every $1 contributed is matched by $3 more. But more importantly, IDA underpins the fundamentals for future growth and human security; It acts as a global insurance policy against disruption by assisting fragile states; and It provides vital social protection through basic services like heath and education. Supporting #IDA21 is in all our interests.

In Cabo Delgado, conflict, unpredictable weather and other issues have caused a food crisis for 1.5 million people. In response, the Aga Khan Foundation has launched AgroVida, a new initiative funded by the Embassy of the Netherlands, to improve nutrition and food security for 125,000 people in northern Mozambique. AgroVida will enhance nutrition and support 24,500 small-scale food producers across 8 districts, directly impacting the lives of those in need.
