The effects of racism still prevent some people feeling locked out of the art world Fortunately, art galleries and contemporary institutions are beginning to address these issues, reclaiming lost black history and putting the work of black artists on display. Dr. Rebecca Loy, Diversity and Inclusion Partner at National Museums Liverpool spoke to our cohort this week about how having productive conversations about race and the effects of racism can have massive impacts. As the author of the the 'ABIDE' strategy for ED&I at the Walker Art Gallery, Dr Loy demonstrated to our learners how they are making positive steps to make art feel more accessible for more people.

Yesterday, our Academy participants had the pleasure of hearing from Tracy Mpofu & Marcus Talbot from the Windrush Stakeholder Outreach team at the Home Office, in a focus group session 🌟 The learners quizzed the speakers topics related to racism in the city region and how we can, as a community, promote open conversations around racism. There was also an interesting discussion around how social media and local initiatives have created new opportunities or challenges when it comes to having discussions about racism. Thanks again to Tracy and Marcus for giving us your time and your fascinating insights. Our learners will find this really useful when they come to develop their suggestions for the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority

Shaping the future of education? Sounds like a job for us This week we had the pleasure of attending and speaking at BRILLIANT Festival. Our Director Zoe, with support from our learners, led an engaging session about demystifying the fusion between curriculum objectives in the classroom and the real world Industry relevance. On Tuesday evening, our learners then enjoyed a night at the theatre where they watched 'Play On!', a retelling of Shakespeare's the Twelfth Night set in 1940s Harlem. The cohort then had the opportunity to create some video content for the Playhouse, filming interviews to catch the audience's reaction after the play. Another jam packed week for the Rise Programme Participants... Tuesday 🎭 Our learners visited The Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse theatres in Liverpool, where they met with CEO Mark Da Vanzo, and Marketing & Communications Director, Sarah Ogle FCIM. They took part in an engaging session, focused on ED&I and how the Theatre positions their communications activity to ensure that this important expression of art and culture is accessible to everyone. Sarah and Mark also set our learners a challenge to capture Vox-Pop style content ahead of their attendance at 'Play On!', a new Jazz musical based on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night at The Everyman Theatre. _____ Wednesday ⚽️ Ben Osu, Senior Lead of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and Everton Football Club met with our cohort, and delivered an insightful focus group about having meaningful discussions about ED&I and Race in the workplace. The learners took so much away from these session, that they will translate into their own client challenge with the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Race Equality Hub. #digitalmarketingcourse #professionalskills #futuretalent
