We build all kinds of homes. This is one is our smallest, it’s an independent living home for a young adult. It’s part of the Department for Education and Bristol Council’s innovative Staying Close project, that provides supported living housing for young residential care leavers. Co-designed with a cohort of young care leavers, Staying Close is developing pathways to living independently and a choice of supported accommodation options, including on-site, nearby, self-contained or shared for as long as is needed. Why is this needed? There are 2,300 children’s homes in the UK. Each year, over 8,000 children turn 18 & have to leave the homes they have grown up in. Many can become at risk of homelessness & abuse. The Staying Close project helps young adults transition from supported to independent living. At Agile we get to work on wonderful projects that support people. This project for Cancer Care & Haematology Fund at Stoke Mandeville hospital will support people on their health journey following a cancer or haematological diagnosis. “The pod is a calm and welcoming space where people can come in, have a cup of tea and get the advice and support they need. It’s great that it is right beside - but separate from - the main Cancer Unit and we hope people will pop in and visit our cancer information and wellbeing team as and when they feel they need to. We’re incredibly grateful to CCHF charity for its continued support of our unit.” Michelle Pearsall. Made from natural and renewable materials, the curved form of an Arc Pod, creates a space that contrasts with conventional hospital space, to give patients the chance to focus on their health and wellbeing, as well as the treatment of their condition. #health #wellbeing Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust https://lnkd.in/eCgUx9f7

Made to move! At Agile we design, make and deliver all types of homes, for people in housing need. It all started when we founded our business with what we call Tam. Tam is made from renewable, carbon storing materials, using modern methods of construction, it’s super insulated, triple glazed and airtight. It’s everything a modern home should be. The only difference is, Tam is made to move! This is the first one we made, built in summer 2017, and showed how housing need could be met quickly and innovatively. It took just ten weeks to make, install and complete. It helped launched a major community-led housing project, it’s been visited by hundreds of people, been a home for Agile colleagues, a show home for us as a business, been warm and cosy in the coldest of winters, cool and comfortable in the hottest summers and now it’s on the move. We can’t say where yet, but it’s for someone in profound housing need. We’re called Agile for good reason! Watch this space to see what happens next! This is a throwback project, designed by the founders of Agile, this is the VELUX project. Did you know that VE is for ventilation, LUX is for light! It is a masterclass in the use of daylight, solar control, super insulation, and natural materials, it showcases how flexible timber is as a material! It’s beautiful, affordable and sustainable, it exemplifies everything we do and more at Agile today. At Agile we have deep roots in sustainability. To find out more visit https://agile.property

Interested in CoHousing? So is the United Nations! This is how they describe LILAC as an exemplar of SDG17 objectives. 👇 The single most interesting eco-housing scheme in Britain, and the most convincing experiment in co-operative ownership for several decades. The acronym stands for ‘Low Impact Living Affordable Community’, and it consists of a communally owned estate of two-storey blocks of flats, built out of zero-carbon materials - packed straw bales in a timber frame. Solar panels heat the water and a little common-room-cum-tea-room-cum-community-centre is attached. All very nice. But what makes it different is the size of the project - it is on the scale of a small council estate, its deep-balconied flats around an attractively overgrown green square (open to the public) with a pond in the middle and allotments round the back. This is a far more urban and extroverted proposition than the eco norm. The modular design, meanwhile (aside from the already rather dated gestural roof at the common room), avoids the embarrassing techno-hippy aesthetics so common in the genre for a simple modernist grid, with a frame construction that recalls the fifties early Brutalism of a Lyons Israel Ellis, right down to the L-shaped windows. Because it never feels exclusive or haughty, it lacks that irritating sense of being an enclave, somewhere where those in the know get to live decently (although of course, that’s what it is). Instead, it’s a logical and serious proposal for housing which could, and should, be rolled out everywhere; not lifestyle smugness, but a better kind of ordinary. This feeling also comes out of the very unpretentious area it’s placed in, a scruffy lower-middle-class Leeds suburb with a rudimentary bus service. Most importantly of all, it’s just lovely - a fine piece of sweetly convincing propaganda for the communards’ ideals. If we’re lucky, this is the future. Want find out more? At Agile we believe that to end the housing crisis and take on the climate emergency, innovation has to be core to everything we do. Whether that’s how we unlock land, build with renewable materials to store carbon, deliver skills training and education at the CLiCs Centre, hunt for grant, create new finance flows to support the delivery of more affordable homes and create social impact in everything we do. Without innovation, we all walk into the future backwards. #innovation for #lowcarbon #affordablehomes
