Global agriculture has evolved into a dual landscape of both vast scale and intricate detail, thanks to technology. Tools are now available for precise management within a field, herd, or flock. But where is the tipping point at which the benefits from bespoke management of individual crops and livestock outweigh the broader, more general oversight of larger populations? At the REAP Conference 2024 we’ll seek to answer this question on Wednesday, 6th November at Newmarket Racecourse. Our exciting programme includes: 🎤 Talks exploring how AI-driven tools are transforming agriculture; 🌐 Internationally recognised speakers; ⚡️ Innovation, start-up showcases and emerging research; 🍓 Chance to meet innovative farmers and learn about tech adoption; 🤖 Hands-on, live demonstrations and technology exhibition; 🤝 Excellent networking opportunities and drinks reception. 📅 See the full agenda here, and secure your ticket before the price goes up on 26th October! #REAP2024 https://lnkd.in/d-ZKmTXy Huge thanks to our sponsors and supporters: Connected Innovation, PwC UK, Innovate UK, Tesco, Rothamsted Enterprises, J A Kemp, Savills, Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association, Fyto Ltd. 🌍 Sustainability and climate resilience are central themes shaping the future of agriculture as industries worldwide grapple with the growing challenges of climate change. As the urgency increases, agri-tech leaders including NIAB, Livestock Improvement Corporation (LIC) and Verdesian Europe & Africa are advancing solutions that prioritise environmental protection and climate resilience. From bio-stimulants to genomics and soil health, these innovations have a shared goal: to future-proof agriculture while minimising environmental impact. This discussion is part of Agri-TechE’s unique foresight project, Back to the Future, which brings together insights from our diverse global membership to envision the next decade of agriculture. By gathering reflections from farmers, researchers, tech developers, and business leaders, we aim to provide a 360-degree view of the industry’s future. This collective intelligence will help drive the sector forward, addressing the challenges of today while building resilience for tomorrow. 🌱 At the forefront of genetic innovation, NIAB uses advanced research to develop crops that are more resilient to climate change. They emphasise the need for more effective funding and policy support to make these innovations accessible to farmers. Watch NIAB's submission video here:https://lnkd.in/e7aMZN9F 🌿 Verdesian Europe & Africa is committed to enhancing crop resilience by minimising the impact of abiotic stresses like drought and extreme heat. Their bio-stimulants help reduce greenhouse gas emissions while boosting crop productivity. They stress the importance of collaboration across the bio-stimulant industry to tackle the pressing challenges of climate change and promote widespread adoption. Read Verdesian's submission here: https://lnkd.in/eNHVtZtX 🐄 A pioneer in livestock genomics and wearable technologies, Livestock Improvement Corporation (LIC) has been instrumental in applying genetic tools to improve livestock productivity and resilience. With over 10% of New Zealand's national herd using wearable tech like smart collars, LIC focuses on integrating these innovations to improve climate resilience, such as breeding for heat tolerance and lower methane emissions. However, they note the challenges of data interoperability across farming systems and envisions a future where farms use a networked, mesh-type system, rather than relying on a single platform. What an experience moderating a panel at the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool today, around plant-based innovations and economic growth. With a new government in place, this is a perfect time for this important discussion. Wide-ranging discussions around the UK's R&D infrastructure, the role of place-based innovation and the importance of - and complexity of doing - systems-based research to address the challenges of crop production. Many thanks to the fantastic panel of Tom Bradshaw, Richard Harrison and Mario Caccamo and excellent questions from the delegates. For those interested, I made reference to the Langdale Review, a great piece of work conducted by Jane Langdale - a 10 year green roadmap for UK plant science research - check it out here https://lnkd.in/e-6hVjb5 NIAB; NFU (National Farmers' Union); Wageningen University & Research.

Several of our members, including Mills & Reeve, Citicourt & Co, and Birkett Long, stress the tension between innovation and regulation. This is a recurring theme in areas like gene-editing, cultured meat, novel foods, and the use of space technology in farming. The challenge is clear: while innovation drives the future of agri-tech, outdated or rigid regulatory frameworks often slow progress. 🔮 Through our “Back to the Future” project, we’re bringing together a wide range of perspectives from Agri-TechE’s global membership to help shape a shared vision for the future of agriculture. By gathering insights from leading experts across sectors—farmers, technology developers, researchers, and business leaders—we aim to create a holistic roadmap that will inform and inspire the industry for the next decade. ⚖️ Leading UK law firm, Mills & Reeve supports clients in navigating complex regulations that impact agri-tech innovation. They highlight that regulation can either drive or stifle progress, especially in emerging areas like cultured meat and gene-editing. Their insight? To truly move forward, regulators must adapt more rapidly to technological advancements. Watch their video here: https://lnkd.in/ewygUC5c 💸 Known for its expertise in finance and investment, Citicourt & Co points out the growing intersection of space tech and agri-tech, such as the use of drones and satellite imaging to enhance farming. They stress the importance of global governments aligning policy with sustainability goals, ensuring that financial and technological innovations are supported. Watch their video here: https://lnkd.in/exVAZ7g2 🛡️ Specialising in intellectual property law, Birkett Long helps companies protect their innovations. They are particularly focused on how regulatory challenges and data protection issues can impact the ability of agri-tech firms to bring new products to market. They emphasise the need for cross-disciplinary collaboration to navigate this complex environment. Watch their video here: https://lnkd.in/e2MerMtR
