🌱We’re in Wakefield with Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire and West Yorkshire Combined Authority to launch the new Green Innovators Primary Programme. The new initiative is designed to introduce young people to the behaviours, skills and careers that will support West Yorkshire’s transition to net zero. ♻️Students will be taking part in interactive activities and working with local businesses to develop their own innovative ways to support a transition to sustainability. 🌱🌍More than three in five young people say they are passionate about sustainability but they had never heard of green jobs. That’s why we’ve partnered with Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire and West Yorkshire Combined Authority to reach over 4,000 young people at primary schools across West Yorkshire as part of our new Green Innovators programme. Today we’re in Calderdale with volunteers from Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, Eco Approach and WSP to showcase to young people the innovation happening in West Yorkshire to meet our net zero goals as a region. #WYGreenInnovators

🤝We’ve partnered with Leeds University Business School to deliver a unique module this semester focused on connecting students with mentors from the business community in Leeds. The module compliments the curriculum with the aim of supporting students to build their networks in Leeds and develop essential skills for their professional development. 💻Through virtual mentoring sessions, students have connected with a range of mentors who have a specialism in ESG to support their completion of a presentation, putting their insights from the module into practice and providing recommendations on how businesses in Leeds can do more to support Net Zero targets. 🏢Students have been taking part in workshops focused on the skills needed to excel in a professional business environment such as communication, leadership, teamworking and critical thinking. They’ve also been immersed in different business environments through workplace visits to key employers within the city such as Accenture, Arcadis, Asda and BDO, with more planned in the coming weeks. 🚀The programme is targeted at students who entered university through widening participation and further supports their development of professional networks and skills with the aim of levelling the playing field. #ESG #SocialMobility #Skills #Sustainability

🎉 This week marked Leeds' very first Festival of Play, celebrated across the city during October's half-term. Activities have been popping up everywhere, from board game nights to free circus workshops. At Ahead Partnership, we’ve also joined in the fun, organising our own events including a team-wide Space Invaders tournament, a game of boules, and a morning filled with Year 7-inspired interactive games. The week has been all about emphasising the value of play at any age, taking a break from daily routines, and reconnecting with our inner child! #Festivalofplay #Leeds

🤝We’ve partnered with the Yorkshire-based rural broadband provider, Quickline Communications Limited, to deliver a bespoke programme of engagement opportunities around tech and innovation for 16 secondary schools across the region. Set to reach a diverse collective of local young people, the initiative will provide new insights around the tech and digital sectors, help to build essential employability skills and connect participating students to industry leaders and professionals from across a range of disciplines within the broader sector. 💬Suzie Bell, Programme Manager at Ahead Partnership, said: “We know first-hand how impactful long-term partnerships such as this one can be for young people, providing them with multiple opportunities to be inspired about the range of opportunities that Yorkshire’s well-established tech and digital sector offers. 🏗️Redevelopment projects offer a brilliant opportunity to engage young people with all the different careers and skills involved at every stage from planning, design, construction and even demolition. They provide a unique behinds-the-scenes look at what goes into creating the built environment around us as well as the professions that use these spaces. We recently collaborated with Arcadis to bring Year 9 students from WEST DERBY SCHOOL to visit the new Royal Liverpool University Hospital and gain unique insights into the skills and careers involved in the safe demolition of the old hospital site. 💬Students said they enjoyed “learning about all the different sectors and how they operate” and “learning how much goes into designing, demolishing and constructing buildings.” #ESG #BuiltEnvironment #Careers #Education
