Between October 6th and 9th, 2024, the Portuguese Wood and Furniture Industries Association (AIMMP) participated for the eleventh consecutive year in the DECOREX fair, held at Olympia London. Recognised as the leading interior design fair in the United Kingdom and one of the most prestigious in Europe, DECOREX covers the residential, hospitality, and commercial sectors. His Excellency the Ambassador of Portugal to the United Kingdom, Nuno Brito, visited the event on October 8th, accompanied by the Director of AICEP in the United Kingdom, Pedro Patricio, and the President of AIMMP, Vitor Poças. This year's edition saw the participation of 18 Portuguese companies, providing an opportunity for dialogue about the current state of the British market and the challenges and opportunities for the Portuguese furniture sector in this context.

📈 Portugal's Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) stock reached a historic high of €183.9 billion in Q2 2024, representing 69% of the GDP, according to Eco! This is an increase of €4.6 billion from Q1 2024 and €10 billion from Q1 2023. Investments from Portugal abroad also grew, totalling €67.6 billion, 25% of the national GDP. This expansion marks the highest level since 1996, highlighting strong domestic and international economic engagement. Key regions contributing to FDI in Portugal include the EU (€139.7 billion), Asia (€11.3 billion), America (€9.9 billion), and CPLP (€7 billion). Panattoni, a Californian company, is set to invest €25 million in building a state-of-the-art logistics hub in Santarém. The project is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2025. 🚀 The new facility will feature: 🏢A multi-tenant warehouse with a gross leasable area of 34,344 square meters 🚚 48 loading and unloading docks 🛠️ 35 meters of maneuvering area 📏 A clear height of 10.6 meters 🔋 800 kW of electrical power across the park Pedro Almeida, Managing Partner at Fort Projects, highlights this infrastructure's significant impact on the Santarém region, including job creation and benefits for local businesses. Vice President João Leite of Santarém City Council points out that the municipality is increasingly sought after for its strategic location and industrial potential. He emphasizes that the new project will generate wealth and help retain residents by creating new job opportunities. 🚀 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗴𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗼𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗔𝗲𝗿𝗼𝘀 𝗠𝗛-𝟭 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗱 "𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿" 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀! Launched into space and establishing communication with Earth on March 19th via the Santa Maria teleport in the Azores, operated by Thales Edisoft Portugal, the MH-1 has already started making waves. On July 2nd, the first images captured by the satellite were released. Weighing just 4.5 kg, this small but mighty satellite will observe the Atlantic Ocean over the next three years, providing invaluable data for scientific studies. The Aeros MH-1 is a product of a national consortium including several Portuguese companies and academic institutions. CEiiA // Centre of Engineering and Product Development is leading the satellite's construction and data processing. The universities of Algarve, Porto, and Minho, Instituto Superior Técnico, and Imar—Instituto do Mar, among others, provide scientific support to the mission. The award was presented during the Logan, Utah's August 3rd to 8th conference. 🚣 Nelo Kayaks, from Vila do Conde, equips athletes from 38 countries at the Paris Olympics. 80% of the 140 kayaks in the competition are manufactured in Portugal. This company is known for its continuous innovation and high performance, ensuring athletes have the best equipment. 🥇🏆 Nelo is already a veteran of this highly competitive event, with a total of 117 medals, 37 of which have been gold: • at its debut, in Atlanta 🇺🇸 in 1996, the company won a medal; • in Tokyo 🇯🇵 2020, the athletes who competed in their kayaks reached the podium 25 times, including 8 for gold; • this year, in Paris 🇫🇷, Nelo Kayaks is working with athletes from 38 countries participating in the speed canoeing events, and 80% of the 140 kayaks in the competition came from their Vila do Conde factory. 📈 SMEs in the Portuguese tourism ecosystem have grown with a 13.7% increase in nominal value added in 2023, following a 23.2% surge in 2022.
