As we get ourselves dolled up for the Ayrshire Chamber Awards ceremony tonight, we felt it would be the perfect time to talk about today’s #FeelGoodFriday. Our final nomination for the awards is for ‘Community Wealth Building’. This is something that is very close to the heart of Jamie, our managing director. Jamie is an Ayrshire lad, born and bred, spending years of his life working away because the opportunities just weren’t here in Ayrshire for him to progress in his career. At Ailsa we are really passionate about bringing highly skilled, highly paid jobs into the region. Alongside this, we actively seek to introduce and connect local businesses to each other to try and help grow the regional economy. There are so many amazing businesses in Ayrshire that could and can help each other, but sadly many of them just don’t know one another. At Ailsa we believe that by connecting Ayrshire businesses we can keep the local economy growing, rather than taking skills and money out of the region. Today’s post is all about the second award we’ve been nominated for, which is ‘Driving Sustainability’. Driving Sustainability is something that has been at the heart of our business since we began. As a business we focus on saving clients money by eliminating unplanned downtime and reducing wasted energy. So to be able to calculate this properly we needed to understand as much as possible about sustainability, environmental impacts and race-to-zero strategies. So much so that we were in the pilot cohort for the Net Zero Nation Accelerator Programme. Through being part of this we have learnt so much about carbon within businesses, how to remove carbon and how looking at your sustainability approach can help the profitability of your business. We’ve now helped over 120 companies in the local area in this process, and we’re starting to make a major impact in reducing the carbon that is consumed across Ayrshire. Today’s #TechnicalTuesday shows that we don’t always end up working in the rain. We do sometimes get the odd day of sunshine! This is a solution that we provided for a client that’s based up in the Isle of Skye. The client was looking at ways to help monitor and mitigate any failures in some of their critical items of plant. Due to the distance from third party support and the criticality of the machines, we helped the client find the best technical solution for the individual applications on the site. This consisted of ten MBVI systems for various pumps and conveyors, and wireless vibration monitoring systems for some of their larger bearings that they’re trying to monitor on site. The clients now have these systems installed and we are remotely supporting them from our base in Ayrshire, here to advise the client in advance of any changes in state or if they’ve got any risk of failures. There were some other challenges with this site; with it being in Skye, getting a standard 4G signal was always going to be difficult, so we’ve had to work with the client on alternative communication methods to make sure we can get live data stream coming back to allow good and accurate analysing of the machine’s conditions.
