About us
AEC is an employee-owned compliance consultancy and training organisation for the safe management of asbestos, water, fire and occupational hygiene in the built environment. We began our journey in 1997, when founders Mandy Reid and Bob Harris started their own asbestos surveying consultancy. As their reputation for quality and client-focus grew, so did AEC. AEC now has 2 main offices, in Manchester and Essex, that serves clients both in the UK and overseas. We have evolved in size and services offered, bringing in the additional expertise of water compliance, occupational hygiene, fire safety services, face fit testing; and room hire coming soon. Today we remain one of the largest leading providers of vocational training services in the UK. Essex: 0203 384 6175 Manchester: 0161 872 7111

Asbestos is widespread! It is estimated to be installed in at least 21,500 out of 35,000 schools in Great Britain. If the location of asbestos on school premises isn’t known then it is far more likely to be disturbed or degrade over time. Last week was a busy one for the healthcare sector. Rounding off the week was our very own Legionella and water hygiene specialists who provided an overview of water management to the IOSH Healthcare group last week 👏
A great day at the IOSH Healthcare Group yesterday. A big thank you Natalie Puce from Weightmans who provided a legal update and insight into the future of health and safety law. Ian Andrews and Elaine Curran who provided practical oversight of water management. Rik Hutchins CMIOSH who demonstrated the Soter web system and how it can support organisations with the management of fire risk assessment. Rose Leese-Weller from the HSE who talked about the HSE’s inspection regime around violence and aggression reduction and musculoskeletal disorder. In addition, stress management and the HSE 10 year strategy. Complementing the HSE’s talk Mid Cheshire’s NHS Trust Head of Security who shared the proactive work they have implemented to reduce incidents of voilence and aggression across their Trust. A final thank you to Wendy Astle-Rowe (CMIOSH) and Lynne Bushell for making the event happen. #weightmans Weightmans IOSH #HSE #safety #aec #soter #nhs

AEC's Darren Evans was on hand to support the BOHS FAAM Annual conference this week. Darren’s talk covered the ‘Asbestos Information Certificate’, a new initiative being developed by some UKAS-accredited inspection bodies, including AEC, to gather data on the condition of asbestos in buildings. The new certificate is aimed at supporting Duty Holders with asbestos management and compliance by providing a visual ‘at a glance’ overview of the status of the asbestos management in their buildings and a rating system that easily identifies areas for improvement. In addition, the data could be used for national mapping of ACMs throughout Great Britain.
