This week I got to use one of my volunteer days at Aitchison Raffety at Stokenchurch Dog Rescue. It was such a rewarding and eye opening day. We got to work straight away cleaning the kennels, washing up bowls, making up the food, walking the doggies (my favourite part) as well as taking some time out to give some gorgeous dogs some much needed love. It was heart breaking seeing some dogs wanting so desperately to find their new home and struggling to live in such an environment but also a relief that others were in their safe space and were happy to call this place their forever home. It really is a paradox. However, the one thing that really stood out for me was the sheer number of people that would come each day to walk the dogs. It was such a warming sight to see so many people coming to give a dog some much needed time out from their kennels and a little taste of 'normal' life. It really showed that small act of kindness can make the biggest differences and without those volunteers and incredibly hard working staff all playing their part, the centre would not be possible. So with that in mind, let's all do our small part and get volunteering whether at Stokenchurch Dog Rescue or somewhere closer and share this post or SDR website and see if we can find these deserving dogs their forever home.
