Jai Purewal, Marketing Executive at Algeco UK, has chosen Didier Drogba as his inspirational figure for Black History Month. On why he picked Drogba, Jai says: "Didier Drogba is celebrated as an idol for Black History Month due to his remarkable achievements both on and off the football field. His journey from humble beginnings in Ivory Coast, to becoming a global football icon is a testament to his talent, determination, and resilience. His ability to perform in crucial matches, especially his decisive goal in the 2012 Champions League final, cemented his legacy as one of the greatest strikers of his generation. Drogba’s impact extends beyond football. He played a significant role in bringing peace to his home country during the Ivorian civil war. To honour Black History Month, several colleagues at Algeco UK have shared stories of the trailblazing figures who have inspired them and have shaped history thanks to their own achievements. Kam McKinley, Regional Director (South East) at Algeco UK has chosen legendary F1 driver Lewis Hamilton as her icon for Black History Month. On why Lewis is an important cultural figure, Kam says: "Lewis Hamilton is the first and only Black driver to compete in Formula 1. His presence challenges stereotypes and opens doors for more diversity in motorsports. As a seven-time Formula 1 World Champion, his dominance in the sport has redefined excellence and sets a benchmark for what Black athletes can achieve in elite spaces. Beyond F1, Lewis is engaged in various philanthropic activities, supporting education, environmental sustainability, and social justice. Finally, I really admire the way he doesn’t shy away from awkward or uncomfortable conversations, and has the integrity to stand up for what he believes in.
