Today marks World Mental Health Day, a day to raise awareness of the value of good mental health. This year, the theme is the ‘importance of addressing mental health and wellbeing in the workplace for the benefit of people, organisations and communities.’ We love the work of our friends at Dorset Mental Health Forum, take a look at their website to find out more: https://lnkd.in/dX5qGFKr #WMHD2024 #worldmentalhealthday #mentalhealthatwork https://lnkd.in/eX8iyqS9
For World Mental Health Day we asked our colleagues to reflect on why work is important in our Recovery journey.... “From my perspective, work gives purpose and structure to my week, also allowing me to enjoy my time off as I feel a sense of achievement. With work I can give back to society, using my knowledge and skills to help those who are vulnerable and need support to get themselves back on their feet” “For me it is about giving back, making a difference and feeling valued. Every day is different, bringing my authentic self to work, sharing learning, listening to everyone's perspective and breaking down barriers, challenging inequalities and treating everyone with compassion and respect." If you would like to hear more stories about the role of work in Recovery from Mental Ill Health and Emotional distress, our Dorset Work Matters team has produced a collection of stories: https://ow.ly/9GTJ50THCBl #WMHD2024 #WeAreTheForum #Dorset

🐝 Bees Helping Track Climate Change! Scientists at the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH) in Wallingford, Oxfordshire, are using bees to monitor environmental changes. By analysing pollen DNA in honey, they can track plant species near hives and infer changing environmental conditions. This innovative approach, part of the National Honey Monitoring Scheme, allows for large-scale, low-cost monitoring. Dr Ben Woodcock and Dr Lindsay Newbold highlight the bees’ role as “remote samplers,” providing crucial data to understand and manage climate change. This partnership with beekeepers is a cost-effective way to gather extensive environmental data. 🌍 At Allen & York, we are passionate about supporting innovative environmental projects like this. 🌍 Exciting News for Carbon Capture in the UK! 🌍 The UK government has pledged nearly £22bn for carbon capture and storage projects on Merseyside and Teesside. This investment aims to create thousands of jobs, attract private investment, and help the UK meet its climate goals. Sir Keir Starmer, along with Chancellor Rachel Reeves and Energy Secretary Ed Miliband, emphasised that this initiative will reignite our industrial heartlands and kickstart growth. While some green campaigners have raised concerns, this move is seen as a game-changer in the fight against climate change, with the potential to remove 8.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually. Let’s embrace this new era of sustainable industry and energy security! 💼 For hiring enquiries, reach out to us at: hello@allen-york.com. #CarbonCapture #Sustainability #ClimateAction #UKIndustry #GreenJobs https://lnkd.in/euFmfmFb
