We’re thrilled to see the release of the Youth Justice Board and Revolving Doors report on Addressing Racial Disparity in the Youth Justice System. Dr Hannah Hammond’s work with the Levelling the Playing Field project was held up as one of the promising practice examples within the report. Dr Hammond told us... ‘It’s great to see the Levelling the Playing Field (LtPF) project being celebrated as a good practice example to address racial disparity in the Youth Justice System. I’m particularly pleased to see the Youth Justice Board recognise the importance of increased connectedness and trust with local criminal justice agencies as a key outcome of the project. Relationships between ethnic minority children and young people and justice agencies were strengthened by an impressive Community of Practice, which was created and facilitated by the LtPF project. I am excited to await launch the full report which utilises a multi-method approach and a strong theoretical foundation to better understand the mechanisms underpinning the power of sport to promote desistance from crime.’ I want our work to amplify the lived experience voices of the marginalised groups that LtPF seeks to support, and to offer tangible recommendations for tackling inequalities in Sport and Justice.’ Read the report here https://lnkd.in/e-4KAJAK Revolving Doors Youth Justice Board for England and Wales (YJB) #levellingtheplayingfield #youthjusticeboard #allianceofsport #sportforgood Dr Hannah Hammond

Life has a remarkable way of guiding us to unexpected places… When I began training calisthenics about 6 years ago (initially as a coping mechanism for trauma) I could never have imagined that I would eventually be talking about my experiences and teaching the same principles that aided me, to prisoners [learners] across the country 💪 I’ve seen firsthand, and on countless occasions now, just how powerful calisthenics is as a tool to help foster resilience, discipline, and a renewed sense of purpose ✨ Many people, but especially those from more disadvantaged backgrounds, simply haven't had the benefits of a 'progression based approach' explained to them before. This counts for calisthenics as much as it does for, well...anything in life. You see, the principles involved are entirely transferrable, and it’s truly inspiring to see how this revelation can ignite so much hope, even in the toughest of environments. But these experiences aren't just transforming the lives of those I work and spend time with, they've also reshaped my own perspective on purpose and fulfillment 🙏 In fact every interaction I've had on this journey has deepened my gratitude for the ability to connect with others who are striving for growth and change, no matter who they are, where they come from, or what they look like. After all, it's the pursuit of a common goal – self-development – that brings us together 🤝 If you'd like to learn more about my growing body of work with HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS), please don't hesitate to get in touch. MUM I’M ON CRIMEWATCH 😅😂 (for the right reasons…) Last Friday Demetri Alvanis, Shakadé Khan and myself had the pleasure of going on BBC 1 Crimewatch LIVE to discuss work we do and the exciting initiatives we’ve launched at Steel Warriors this year 🔥 Words cannot articulate our gratitude for the amount of support we’ve received lately 🙏 The holistic benefits of calisthenics have positively impacted so many lives already, we aim to continue doing so but on a larger scale 😎 Thanks to Rav Wilding and Michelle Ackerley for the conversation - let’s see what the rest of the year holds ✨🤝 ONWARDS 🫡 #crimewatch #bbc #calisthenics #youthempowerment #fitness #ukcharity #fitnessbusiness #bbc

This week our COO, Justin C. attended Include Summit 2024 for a day filled with inspiring connections and valuable learnings. 'From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the incredible diversity of attendees. I had the chance to speak with a fantastic group of guests, representing the full EDI spectrum. There were participants, staff, and even CEOs from a range of community-centered organisations, all passionate about creating a more inclusive space.' - Justin Justin, together with Dr Hannah Hammond, delivered a workshop to 50 attendees on the Alliance of Sport's Levelling the Playing Field project. The workshop presented key research findings and effective approaches for community sports organisations, from an equitable perspective. Joining them in delivery were inspiring young leaders Reahana Gordon and Davarel Gordon, from Fight 4 Change, who were freshly back from winning a well-deserved MET Police Award for community service the night before. The day was a great example of how we can all learn from each other by sharing best practices. Thank you to everyone we met there for coming together for such a great event. Blamey Upshot Systems CIC, rediscovered this blog from a while ago now - but fascinating that this is so applicable to today... at the time of speaking with UpShot, I can remember this being with momentum in the #SportForDevelopment sector... heading to Include Summit now and interestingly the M.E.L journey is still a hot topic of the event (and audience interactions, on the Whova App!) Here is a snippet from the M.E.L blog, and all there are worth a read: “Firstly, we need to learn from all ages, stages and gender approaches together - if we limit our view of the problem, we limit the solutions – I would consider the Cartesian Logic (also known as Cartesian Doubt). This is an effective way to examine questions and answers from every angle/perspective. The inference/conclusion that you will get from it, will determine what you should do next. The four questions being: 1. Straight: What would happen if you did? 2. Inverse: What would happen if you didn't? 3. Converse: What won't happen if you did? 4. Non-Mirror Image Reverse: What won't happen if you didn't? These questions can then be applied to MEL to look at what would happen if you went through robust MEL processes." 👉🏼https://lnkd.in/erGZ-sMx #SportForDevelopment #Blog #MEL #Data #StoryTelling #CriminalJustice #SystemChange #UnitingTheMovement #SportEngland #SportWales #IncludeSummit

Alliance of Sport COO, Justin Coleman, is thrilled to be returning to Include Summit 2024, alongside Dr. Hannah Hammond, and Fight 4 Change Leaders for the third year in a row! “Our session will be filmed and pictures taken for post-event reflection – but this will also offer a unique perspective on the LtPF research. Together, we will be taking a deep dive into Dr. Hannah Hammond’s findings and exploring the impact of the research through the lens of lived experiences. This isn’t just about sharing data; it’s about giving a platform to empower young leadership and voices with the opportunity to explore the “so what” factor. These insights will be crucial in shaping the future of inclusivity in sport.” #TogetherWeDid #IncludeSummit #2024 For more information: 👉 https://lnkd.in/e2ERpJ3V
