🆕 ACUA Ocean unveils details about its USVs 🎯 ACUA Ocean, ULK-based developer of USVs, have announced that their new uncrewed surface vessels will be named the Pioneer-class, with the prototype first of its class vessel “USV PIONEER” currently in build at Aluminium Marine Consultants (AMC) on the Isle of Wight, UK. Future vessels in the class will be named after leading pioneers in the fields of exploration, science and technology. The Pioneer-class USVs feature a hybrid-electric propulsion system and are being built ready to receive either a gaseous hydrogen or a low-emission diesel powertrain dependent on end-user specifications or mission parameters. The 14 meter Pioneer-class vessel has recently been granted a UK patent for the inventiveness of the modular small water-plane twin hull (SWATH) design which enables both modularity of build and also the deployment of modular sensor and system payloads. Research conducted by the University of Southampton, including wave tank testing and digital simulations, show the Pioneer-class USVs outperforming the seakeeping stability of a monohull vessel 3x its length and 10x its displacement. USV Pioneer's exceptional platform stability, payload versatility, portability and scalability meet the increasing need of end users for high-quality data and operational availability and reliability in open ocean conditions but delivered at a fraction of the cost of larger crewed or autonomous platforms. In addition to the Pioneer, ACUA Ocean is developing a 24m long-endurance high-powered USV called Maelstrom. We are delighted to mark the completion of Seb Norsworthy’s in-house training in Aluminium Boat Building, Marine Engineer Bias. Seb is the second trainee to complete AMC’s four-year training programme with other trainees to follow. Seb was presented with his certificate by AMC’s HR Manager, and he also received a G-Shock 30th Anniversary limited edition time piece watch in recognition of his achievement. On the successful completion of his training, Seb commented ‘It is a pleasure to work at AMC, I have learnt many skills and developed them over my time here. Everyone has been very supportive, and I look forward to continuing working here and expanding my skill set even further. Rob Stewart, Commercial Director commented, ‘AMC instigated a training programme to encourage young trainees to gain the practical skills needed to produce our high-quality vessels. Our training consists of practical hands-on training, working alongside our meticulously skilled workforce. It is our mission to invest time in a welding, marine engineering, and fabrication bias training programme to ensure the future of the next generation of skilled workers within the marine manufacturing industry. It has been another busy week in the yard. With one boat launching, this has given us the space to start setting up for the next build. Whilst this has been happening we’ve also been making great progress with stock build 2.

The latest Aluminium Marine Consultants hull is now getting ready for launch. The hull will be moved into the Diverse Marine workshop ready for fitout.
