Supporting people to live well with dementia

About us

Alzheimer's Support is an award-winning charity which offers practical services to people living with dementia and family carers in Wiltshire. We support people to lead lives that are active, creative, independent and meaningful - in short to live as well as possible with dementia. Our services include national award-winning home support, a network of friendly day clubs and more than 40 community groups including Music for the Mind, Movement for the Mind, art groups, discussion groups, memory cafes, gardening cafes and Muddy Boots outdoors groups. Our dementia advisers offer advice for all the family and we provide training for family carers and for other professionals. We are supported by more than 150 volunteers who make a massive contribution to our work. We rely on fundraising to support our work and events include our annual Walk to Remember in June and #Denim4Dementia dress down days in October.

To mark Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, members of team apetito | Wiltshire Farm Foods took part in a fun charity step challenge throughout September to make a real difference for our valued charity partner, Alzheimer's Support. Departments went head-to-head to see which team could complete the most steps over the four weeks, and our New Product Development team – known as The Red Hot Chilli Steppers - came out on top! In total, the teams taking part walked an impressive 52.7 million steps – nearly equivalent to circling the Earth at the equator - and raised over £1,100 in the process for a brilliant cause.   #AlzheimersSupport #AlzheimersAwareness #MakingARealDifference

My Dad's Journey with Alzheimer's – A Call for Support As many of you know, my dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s at the young age of 54. Over the past several years, his illness has rapidly progressed, and sadly, he is now only a shadow of the person he once was. After many difficult discussions, our family made the heart-wrenching decision to place him in a care home, as we could no longer meet his growing needs at home. Thankfully, the incredible team at Barchester Healthcare - Cepen Lodge has cared for him with so much love and compassion over these years. To give back and help support other families like ours, my mum and the amazing staff at Cepen Lodge are walking 26 miles from Bath to Devizes on 12th October. We are raising funds for Alzheimer's Support an organization that has provided invaluable help to our family and so many others. If you'd like to contribute to this cause and support those affected by Alzheimer’s, please consider donating through our JustGiving link below. Every little bit helps in the fight against this heartbreaking disease. Thank you for your support 🤍 https://lnkd.in/eew825mt

We're thrilled to be bringing A Walk to Remember to Wilton House near Salisbury in September - it will be a magnificent setting for our second #memorywalk of 2024. This one is just five miles (with a one-mile accessible route for anyone who prefers a gentler challenge). We'll start with a fun group warm-up and end with live music, homemade refreshments and a medal for every finisher. Please sign up to join us! It will be a great day out and every penny raised will support people affected by dementia in Wiltshire.

"What became clear to me very quickly was how people living with dementia can develop their musical skills and build on songs from week to week to sing in harmony, in rounds, take solos and express themselves as equal members of the group. Often this takes their own partners by surprise..." From wannabe pop star to Music for the Mind, Nick Waterhouse reflects on his journey to working for Alzheimer's Support and what he has learned along the way. Nick, we are so lucky to have both you and Caroline on our team 🎶 https://lnkd.in/eCuRTxvp #musicfordementia #musicforthemind Wiltshire Music Centre

As part of our long-standing and valued partnership with Wiltshire-based charity Alzheimer's Support we recently made a donation of £10,000 that will help to make a real difference to those living with dementia. This money was raised by our staff members over the past year through various internal events, as well as generous donations from our monthly Sunday Lunch Club. We’re proud to continue supporting the important work of Alzheimer’s Support in helping those with dementia to live independent and fulfilling lives, as well as providing support to carers across Wiltshire. #AlzheimersSupport #DementiaAwareness #MakingARealDiffference

We have said a fond farewell to our head of community services, Kate Sharpe, who has left after nine years at Alzheimer's Support. Many people with dementia and their families were encouraged to come along to our cafes, singing, art and nature groups, and so many carers were supported through our training and groups - because of Kate and the team she led. Enjoy your next chapter Kate, you'll be missed! And welcome to Jon Mansfield, our new head of service, pictured receiving the 'baton of community services'. We're glad to have you with us!
