Great session this morning as part of techSPARK uk’s Bristol Tech Festival, with Albert Goodman’s Samuel Wood ACA hosting a panel discussion, entitled Startup, Growth, Exit. Matthew Chandler, partner at Albert Goodman, Victoria 'Torie' Darvall, Senior Associate at Mogers Drewett Solicitors, and David Goodall, Fund Manager at FW Capital, made for an expert panel. Valuable insights were shared on some the key themes and topics that accountancy, tax, and legal advisors field from tech-based businesses in the region around key stages of the business life cycle. #BristolTechFestival

🤖Technology. Who could really live without it? It’s in everything we do, from driving to work in the morning to me typing this very post. That’s why I was so keen to hear from a panel of experts earlier this week at Bristol Tech Festival, on how businesses are leveraging technology to help them grow. What exactly is tech doing to help guide business strategy? 🤔 Quite a lot actually… 😎 Whether it’s data capturing tools that can inform business leaders of gaps in the market to explore, or the ever-improving LLMs that can spark ideas that turn into award winning campaigns, technology itself now has a seat at the table in many organisations, from startups to established enterprises. 🔑 My key takeaway though? You can’t just let data be your reason for growth and expect your team to come along with you. Shared vision and a learning culture is still as important as ever if you want sustainable growth in your business. A big thanks to Tim Wright, Claire Burden, Jennifer Tragner & Logan Estop-Hall for an insightful morning! #BTF24 #Technology #Growth #Business

Bristol is a real magnet for healthtech and meditech start ups. It's a cluster which has grown organically over time, outside of the 'golden' London-Oxford-Cambridge triangle. Businesses are drawn (or born) by the talent and resources of two excellent universities, the local networks and....it's cheaper to do business here. So, today I pottered down to Engineshed to a SETsquared Bristol event as part of Bristol Tech Festival to hear from four health- and meditech founders talk about what's happened in their businesses over the last two years. In fact, in the time since they formed the very same panel at the same event two years ago. I have an interest in healthtech both as a consumer and also because we work with some businesses in this market. So it was genuinely interesting and honestly pretty humbling to hear what these four founders had to say in an environment which felt quite informal, open and honest. I heard from Dr Jenny Bailey Cooper, CEO at Ferryx, Michael Roberts at GenomeKey, Dr Joshua Steer at Raddi Devices and Jenny Button, CEO at Emm. A few things below which struck me and I thought worth sharing: 🧠 You don't need to be an academic or scientist to start a healthtech business. Most investors won't be either. What's important is that you are able to assimilate knowledge and communicate what you have learned. 🌍 Think internationally from day one. There are multiple routes to market. You will need to think further than the NHS initially even if you return there one day. 📝 Conventions around starting a small business rarely apply in the same way to the healthtech world. It's a challenge to decipher which you should follow and which not to. There is no healthtech start-up playbook. 🏭 Outsource with care and build core competency in house. 🎨 Be creative about how you demonstrate success. Find a way to tell your story for the audiences you are speaking to. What's important is that you show progress. 🌉 Bristol is THE place to be for health and meditech start ups. Thanks to the panel for their wisdom

Yesterday it was May’s turn to fly the AMBITIOUS flag at brightonSEO! It was an action-packed day of search insight. Here were some of her key takeaways: 🔎 The strength of your brand has a direct correlation to search. You need to prioritise brand affinity across channels to see impact (Carrie Rose, Rise at Seven | Search-First Creative Agency). 🤖 People need to start combining human with AI, known as the cyborg method, to get the best results out of it (Tom Winter, SEOwind). 💻 The digital world has meant the path to conversion is no longer linear and businesses need a holistic multi-touch strategy to combat this (Yasmin Burchill, Impression). 🗣️ B2B marketing language isn’t landing in the boardroom and to get buy-in and enhance collaboration it’s necessary to adapt (Eoin Cahill, Google). See what else she got up to in the video! 🤳🏻 #BrightonSEO #SEOtips #SEO
