Do we need to ‘humanize’ Pharma? My thoughts have been percolating since my return from Pharmageddon Europe a couple of weeks ago. One of the key take-homes was that Pharma is no good at using effective storytelling to communicate the info that matters. I find this so disheartening. Pharma should have this nailed. Pharma should be one of the best storytellers out there! My initial reaction was that this shouldn’t be a key take-home from one of the most refreshing and disruptive events that I have attended. Storytelling is as old as humankind, it’s not ‘disruptive’, but maybe that’s the issue. If we believe that we are naturally good storytellers, then have we become complacent? Some of Pharma’s target audiences who attended Pharmageddon made it crystal clear that the status quo is not good enough. Pharma speaks one language, patients another, doctors yet another, and there is frustration that this remains the case. This is (surely!) a call-to-action for Pharma to do better? We all want communications that are understandable; that are clear and consistent; that mean something to us. We are, after all, all human – aren’t we? #medicalcommunications, #Pharma, #AMICULUM, #Pharmageddon Dr Azmain Chowdhury, Elly Aylwin-Foster, Carole S.
