The Anaesthesia & Critical Care show was a great success for all! There was incredible interest in our technologies. As Craig Townsend mentioned: 'We had insightful discussions on higher specificity blood pressure cuffs, AI-powered epidural vision systems, and needle pain reduction. There was also deep interest in neurological biomarker discovery and the Negative Pressure Ventilator from Portsmouth Aviation Limited and Exovent .' On Wednesday, Diane and Craig Spring delivered an insightful presentation on the science, history and development of negative pressure ventilation, sharing their perspectives on its evolution and future potential. It was a fantastic event, full of productive conversations and engagement —thanks to everyone who stopped by!

I had the pleasure of attending the Anaesthesia & Critical Care Conference in London on Wednesday. Great discussions were had with numerous vendors on topics ranging from depth of anaesthesia monitoring to NHS budgets and procurement. Wearing my non-anaesthesia hat, some of the key messages that kept getting repeated were: - Digitisation & connectivity – while this varies considerably between different ICSs, the general direction of travel is clear. Vendors are actively investing in new connectivity and integration solutions. Expect a flurry of announcements in this area over the next 6 – 12 months. - Sustainability – this was mentioned by virtually everyone I spoke to and will become an increasingly significant factor in procurement decisions as time goes on. This will impact every part of the supply chain, from medical device manufacturing and packaging related emissions to more targeted use of anaesthesia and other medical gases. - Budgets – no surprises to hear that both Capex and Opex budgets are under severe pressure. Consequently, providers are extending product lifecycles (which could delay the implementation of fully connected medical devices) and demanding more bang-for-their-buck from vendors. - Procurement – the restructuring of NHS England into regional Integrated Care Systems (ICSs) has diluted the influence of clinicians in purchasing decisions. It is also driving a shift towards standardisation of systems and devices across ICSs. While this should benefit clinicians and patients in the long run, it will raise market barriers for non-incumbent vendors. ‘Nobody ever got fired for buying IBM’ and all that. For those #anaesthesia and #ventilator device vendors at the show not familiar with Signify Research Ltd Research, my colleague Sam Wilson covers both of these markets in depth, so please reach out if you would like to learn more.
