From pineapple leaves to low-impact textile 🌱👟 Our unique process turns pineapple leaves into sustainable, vegan textiles with zero harmful chemicals, zero bleaching and zero pulping. Discover our eco-friendly process for creating Piñatex 🍍✨ Step 1: Pineapples are grown for food, creating 27 million tons of leaf waste around the world each year Step 2: Waste leaves are collected on the pineapple farms by leaf gatherers Step 3: Fibres are extracted from the waste leaves using a mechanical process called decortication The residual biomass from the fibre extraction is used as fertilisers to re-plant the crops Step 4: The pineapple leaf fibre is cleaned in water and dried naturally in the sun, or in drying ovens during the rainy season Step 5: The fibre goes through an enzymatic wash to remove remaining impurities, before further mechanical processing to reach textile grade fibre, called Anam PALF® Step 6: Anam PALF® is blended with PLA (from corn waste) and goes through a needling process to create Piñafelt®: the base of Piñatex® Original, Mineral, Metallic and Performance collections Step 7: Piñatex® is coated and coloured using GOTS certified pigments in a water and energy efficient process Step 8: The Original, Mineral and Metallic collections are then ‘tumbled’ to give them their signature wrinkled surface, resulting in Piñatex® #Piñatex #MadeFromPiñatex #TextileInnovation #SustainableFashion #LowImpact
