Tomintoul has announced the launch of two limited edition expressions: Tomintoul 15-year-old Tawny Port Cask Finish and Tomintoul 14-year-old Pedro Ximénez Sherry Cask Finish Handcrafted in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, these new Tomintoul bottlings join the distillery’s 14-year-old Cognac Cask Finish and 15-year-old Madeira Cask Finish as part of its innovative aged cask finish collection launched earlier this year. Putting a fresh spin on the core Tomintoul style, each expression has an individual maturation profile, having been matured in exceptional American oak ex-bourbon casks before being finished in experimental casks, carefully selected by Master Distiller Robert Fleming. The Tomintoul 15-year-old Tawny Port Cask Finish was distilled in 2008 and finished in barriques handpicked in Portugal. The Tawny Port barriques perfectly complement Tomintoul Single Malt, imparting rich fruit flavours, which enhance the character and complexity of the whisky. With a limited release of just 6,072 individually numbered bottles, its flavour profile is sweet and fruity, with a wash of baked strawberry, stewed rhubarb and vanilla custard, married with sweet nougat, candied almonds and cocoa powder. With a limited release of only 4,380 individually numbered bottles, the Tomintoul 14-year-old Pedro Ximénez Sherry Cask Finish has been finished in specially selected Pedro Ximénez Sherry quarter casks sourced in Spain. Distilled in 2009, the expression is rich and sweet, with deep aromas of chocolate fudge cake, maple syrup and cedarwood, leaving impressions of tiramisu, dark chocolate and Brazil nuts lingering on the tongue. Glencadam Distillery has extended its innovative cask finish collection with a duo of new expressions. Glencadam has announced two new exciting cask finishes as part of its innovative non-age statement collection - Glencadam Riserva Di Amarone and Glencadam Reserva De Madeira. Handcrafted in small batches by Master Distiller Robert Fleming, each expression has been matured in exceptional American oak ex-bourbon casks - true to the distillery’s signature style – before being expertly married and finished in hand selected barrels to add new dimension to Glencadam’s classic orchard and tropical fruit flavours. Creating new, distinctive taste profiles, Glencadam Riserva Di Amarone - Amarone Wine Cask Finish and Glencadam Reserva De Madeira - Madeira Wine Cask Finish have both been bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered and at natural colour. Glencadam Riserva di Amarone has been matured in the finest Amarone wine casks sourced from Italy to create an opulent entry-level expression. On the nose, there is sweet aromas of cherry jam, marzipan, fruit nougat and pistachio, bound with baking spices. On the palate, a wash of red fruits, crystallised ginger and strawberry liquorice, mingled with oak spices, candied peels and cacao. To finish, layers of cappuccino, dark chocolate, Morello cherry and raspberry jam, leaving a warming wood spice linger. Glencadam Reserva De Madeira, finished in the finest Madeira wine casks sourced from Portugal’s Madeira Islands, is sweet and rounded. On the nose, there’s aromas of cooked apples, brambles and custard tarts, with syrup sponge cake, nutmeg and berry coulis. On the palate, a wash of spiced fruits, cantaloupe melon, golden raisins and summer fruit pudding, structured with dark chocolate and ginger spices. Long and indulgent layers of brittle toffee are then finished with mocha and chocolate truffle, cushioned with cosy cake spices. The extension of the collection follows the success of previous cask finish releases, including Glencadam Reserva PX which picked up the Gold Award at the International Wine & Spirits Competition, International Spirits Challenge and the Scotch Whisky Masters earlier this year. Glencadam Distillery has today launched a new limited edition 27-year-old Oloroso Sherry Cask Finish, Glencadam Reserva de Jerez. Carefully selected and specially crafted by Master Distiller Robert Fleming, the new expression was distilled in 1996 and initially matured in exceptional ex-bourbon American oak casks, before being expertly married then finished in the finest Oloroso Sherry butts sourced from Jerez, Spain. Aged for nearly three decades in the Royal Burgh of Brechin, the East Highland single malt combines heritage and tradition to offer an elegant expression with a complex and indulgent flavour profile. Limited to only 1,691 individually numbered bottles, the single malt has been bottled at 46% alc / vol, non-chill filtered and at natural colour. This is the latest in a series of limited edition cask finish releases from Glencadam which has seen the distillery pick up an impressive array of award wins over the last 12 months, including its Glencadam Reserva PX Cask Finish which won Best Highland Single Malt at the World Whiskies Awards.
