Due to serious incidents in school in recent times, it is now common place for them to have a ‘lockdown’ policy in place to hopefully reduce the loss of life or injury to their students and staff. The fundamentals of any lockdown is to allow the doors to be locked internally in order to form a physical barrier to prevent entry and ‘buy time’ in the event of a terror attack or imminent threat without using a key. There is also a requirement a communication system to control the situation effectively in the event of a serious incident taking place. The master key systems we supply allow the students to lock any doors from the internal side without using a key, thus allowing a physical barrier to be formed without a key holder such as a teacher been gpresent, whilst at the same time, allow the teaching staff to enter the rooms with a key if they are locked out, even if the thumbturn is being held by using anti-barricade cylinders. It also means they can escape from a locked door to safety if th need arises. "Classroom" cylinders which once were an option to be supplied to schools are now longer fit for purpose in terms of a lockdown. They are currently fitted into many schools around the UK. The problem now is that type of cylinder does not allow the student to lock the doors from the inside – they can only unlock them. This is a problem when moving into a lockdown scenario. We ensure that our Master Key Suites going into schools meet every need required and focussing on fire, internal barricading, into classrooms, self harm and lockdowns. We configure the schools zones which gives control as necessary, and ensure the Master key Suites are on a restricted profile which aids in key control. We always design for expansion, so that if a school has a build added, we can place the new building onto the suite. If you want to know how our Master Key Suites can help you, and not just in the educational setting, drop us a line on enquiries@anubislocks.uk and we can advise accordingly to suit your needs.

Your opinion matters. Both designs have their merits. A traditional business card has all contact information to hand for immediate use, but a QR code business card drives traffic to your website giving a potential client the full view of services on offer to help them make an informed decision. Which would you prefer in your hand?

In a world which gives the impression of becoming more volatile by the week, a community in the UK has experienced yet another tragic incident. Southport brings the importance of security of educational and community settings into sharp relief giving further importance to Martyn's Law being passed into legislation. The article is to demonstrate not just an effective locking system, but where it fits in the bigger picture of what educational settings must consider. The whole point of a successful lockdown isn't just about drills. Giving every person the chance to lock a door is just as important. When writing this article, I would like to thank Lisa Broad MSyI for her 'homework marking' and input with her vast experience of counter terrorism in educational settings. #education #schools #aliceoshea #jodieread #localauthorities

So, this week we've come to the end of one project with a local school. We were approached by them to ask us to make their locking system compliant and have it fall into line with Martyn's Law. Now this bill hasn't been passed into legislation as of yet but the school wanted to get ahead of the game and make sure they were on top of it. All internal classroom doors have been completed. Out with the original 120yr old (yes, you read that right) thumb press latch handles and locks which couldn't be locked, and in with new handles, fire compliant cases and anti-barricade cylinders, again fire rated. The cylinders have been placed onto a Master Key Suite which cuts down the amount of keys in circulation. It also means any member of the staff get react anywhere in the school with just one key. Also, as the cylinders have been built to anti-barricade specifications, it means that teaching staff have full control over the school. If a child or agitator tries to barricade themselves into a room by locking the door and holding the thumbturn on the inside, the door can still be unlocked and entry gained from the outside. This isn't just about Lockdowns in the event of a serious incident. It's about basic safeguarding and ensuring everybody is kept safe and staff can react to whatever they are faced and having to deal with at any scale. Anyway, I've knocked up a quick video below for you to take a look at. All the school needs now are painters and decorators. Whether you're involved in the education sector, HMOs, secure accommodation, care sector, care in the community, office blocks and business parks, stadia or other venue and you're to sure what would be best for you, give us a shout and we will gladly advise. This is too important to play games with and get it wrong. #lisabroad #aliceoshea #safeguarding #schools #localauthority #jodieread #schools #edcucationsector #stadiums

The world is changing, and how you think about your locking systems may need to change with it. Whether you run an HMO, business Park, secure accommodation, health care sector, care home, office block, stadia, school, college or university, anti- barricade cylinders are the way forward. Not just to make life easier on a Master Key Suite, we are now in the realms of basic safeguarding and lockdown measures. Certain establishments may need to thinking a bit more laterally. Depending on what you do and where your establishment falls, your locking systems may need to be reviewed. #Evva #Aldridge #safeguarding

As of the 1st October 2023, new fire regulations stated that, all holiday homes should have thumb turn cylinder locks fitted to all external doors. Exit doors, such as the front or back door, should always be easy to unlock and must not need a key to unlock them from the inside. A simple latch or thumb turn is usually good enough. However, you may need to consider whether all guests are able to open these doors. A simple single action turn handle or lever will often be more appropriate. Note this says fire safety law and therefore is the legal requirement of all landlords, certainly for those with holiday lets. An example of a lock with a thumb turn on the inside is a thumb turn euro cylinder. On all upvc type doors, this is simply a matter of changing the cylinder. On doors with mortice (often called ‘Chubb’ type) locks, you will need to change the lock, handles and purchase a cylinder. While thumb turns are great for fire escapes, they do pose a security risk as it is possible with certain tools to go in through the letterbox and rotate the thumb turn to gain access. Therefore any locks with thumb turns on a door with a letter plate, should also purchase a letter plate guard to alleviate this problem. This is essential to make sure no one can lock a door, remove the key and be unable to get out if a fire breaks out. You can find more information here. The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Draft Bill was expected to be put before Parliament in the spring of 2024. However, due to the announcement of the 2024 General Election and Parliament being dissolved, this never took place, however, regardless of which political party comes to power, the bill is expected to be brought into law quickly. The bill, commonly known as Martyn's Law in honour of Martyn Hett who was murdered along with 21 others at the Manchester Arena bombing, intends to improve safety in publicly accessible places if a terrorist attack or any other attack occurs. The types of premises the law will apply to include primary and secondary schools. Keep an eye out on our page as I will be publishing an article on this topic over the coming days, and how this bill could affect your current locking arrangements.
