⬇️ CNIL Imposes €800,000 Fine on Cegedim Santé for Unlawful Processing of Sensitive Health Data. In a significant ruling, the French data protection authority, CNIL, has fined Cegedim Santé €800,000 for unlawfully processing sensitive health data. Cegedim Santé, which provides software to over 25,000 medical practices and 500 health centers, was found to have collected and used non-anonymous patient data without proper authorization. This data, which included medical history and prescriptions, could potentially lead to re-identification posing serious privacy risks. The breaches also extended to Cegedim’s integration of the “HRi” teleservice, where patient reimbursement histories were automatically downloaded without their consent or control. This case highlights the importance of strict adherence to data protection laws, particularly when handling sensitive health information. Despite the company no longer managing the processed data, CNIL’s actions emphasize that accountability cannot be overlooked. As data privacy continues to evolve, compliance is essential, especially in industries dealing with highly sensitive data.
