Our students at Apple Orchard recently got together to visit the Armed Forces & Veterans Breakfast Club. The official AFVBC is a vital community where veterans come together to share stories, find support and enjoy a hearty breakfast. Its mission is to create a warm and welcoming space for veterans from all branches, making sure the support and welfare needs of veterans are fulfilled and also by fostering camaraderie and offering a network of like-minded souls. As a very small school we also want to help our young people to make connections beyond our boundaries and so when the opportunity came to join the veterans for a morning, we were not short of volunteers, especially as some of our students are cadets as well! The morning proved to be an enriching experience and the students were presented with badges to remind them of their visit. We are hoping this will be more than just a one-off and lead to a growing relationship over the coming months and years. Thanks to a proposal from one of our students, managed by the Student Council, we now have a brand new after school football club! Our students went above and beyond to secure not one, but two internationally trained football coaches, who are also members of our teaching staff! The Student Council has also launched a lunchtime drama club, run by one of our teaching assistants with a performing arts background. It's inspiring to see our students take the initiative and bring their ideas to life and we couldn't be more proud! #inspiringstudents #afterschoolfootball #studentcouncil #dramaclub

This term at Apple Orchard School, we’ve transformed our space with new chairs, boards, and even a water cooler. But the highlight? A new sense of identity for our school! We created a custom school sign and a student-designed tie (thanks to Ryan & the DT team!). The tie debuted today with Year 10s & 11s which were a hit - shirts & suits are next! 👔 Can’t wait to see what January brings. Wishing everyone a festive and restful holiday season! ✨

At Apple Orchard School we are very lucky to have Ripple, our Canine Concern learning support dog. She comes into school for two full days to support the students in the classroom. Ripple is a young chocolate Labrador who absolutely thrives on attention, so this is her dream job. The students take their responsibilities for her very seriously and treat her with utmost respect. They have learnt all her tricks and always ask what she needs to do to get a treat. The Kennel Club of Great Britain run a Bark and Read scheme to encourage children to read by having dogs present. Ripple was selected by the Kennel Club to attend Crufts to support their Bark and Read stand! All the students were so excited and proud that their dog was going to Crufts, we decided to take a small group of students with us. It was a fantastic experience for the students and for Ripple, the students have already asked if they can go again! #BarkAndRead #Crufts #LearningSupportDog
