Stammering is a neurological condition that varies from person to person. It can start gradually or suddenly and can be variable from day to day and situation to situation. Some people use strategies to mask their stammering. About 8% of children will stammer at some point. It is common in children between the ages of 2 and a half and 5 years old, although it can also start later in life. Up to 3% of adults will continue to stammer throughout their lives. Also known as stuttering, stammering is a speech disorder that interrupts the normal flow of speech. These interruptions can include repeated sounds, syllables, words, or prolonged sounds. It may also involve involuntary pauses or blocks during speech. Stammering is not typically cured in the traditional sense, but it can be effectively managed with the right interventions. Many people, especially children, outgrow stammering naturally as their speech develops. For others, especially those who continue to stammer into adulthood, it may become a lifelong condition, though its impact can be significantly reduced. #AriseNursing

Menopause is the point in a woman's life when her menstrual periods permanently stop, marking the end of her reproductive years. It's also known as the climacteric or the change of life. It is mainly caused by a decline in estrogen levels and loss of ovarian function. Usually, it happens between the ages of 45 and 55, although can happen earlier. There is a period of transition to menopause, that is, the period that precede it - this is called perimenopause which can typically last for several years. During this period, a woman's ovaries produce fewer eggs, ovulation becomes irregular, and the production of estrogen and progesterone decreases. Menopause last for about seven years, but can be up to 14 years. #AriseNursing #UK

Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) refers to the practices and measures designed to prevent the spread of infections within healthcare settings and the broader community. It is crucial in reducing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and protecting both patients and healthcare workers from infectious diseases. For its effectiveness, it involves a range of strategies that aim to limit the transmission of pathogens, including bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms Training for healthcare workers and education for the public on best practices in IPC are essential for maintaining high standards of care. Public education campaigns also promote awareness of hygiene and infection control practices in the general population. Infection Prevention and Control week focuses on educating healthcare workers, patients, and the general public about measures like proper hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), sterilization, and safe handling of medical devices and surfaces. #AriseNursing #UK

If you ever notice any of these signs, do not wait till it becomes worse to see a doctor. Also, regular screening will help you discover if any of the signs are developing or you are at risk of developing them. Early interventions are key factors in fighting breast cancer. #AriseNursing #BreastCancerAwareness

According to BreastCancerNow, Breast Cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, with 1 woman diagnosed every 10 minutes. In the same report, it was found that about 55,000 women and 400 men are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in the UK, with England alone having about 46,000 people diagnosed. Breast cancer happens when cells in the breast change and start growing too fast, forming a lump or tumor. This is caused by changes in the cells' DNA, but things like genetics, hormones, age, and lifestyle can also make it more likely to happen. Breast Cancer needs a lot of awareness and attention for many reasons, including the prevalence. It is one of the most common cancers worldwide. In women, it accounts for a significant proportion of cancer diagnoses, making it a global health concern. Also, the mortality rate is high despite advances in diagnosis and treatment, the physical, emotional, and psychological toll of breast cancer on individuals and their families is profound. Early detection and treatment can make a whole lot of difference. #AriseNursing

Dyspraxia affects about 10% of the United Kingdom population, with up to 2% severely affected. Often times, many people with dyspraxia aren't diagnosed until adulthood, even though identifying it early has proven important to help people adjust and improve better. Dyspraxia, also known as Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD), is a neurological condition that affects physical coordination and motor skills. It is typical of people living with dyspraxia to have difficulty in planning and executing movements, which impact their everyday tasks such as writing, tying shoelaces, participating in sports, etc. Although it primarily affects fine motor skills (e.g., using a pen), it can also influence gross motor skills (such as running or jumping). Dyspraxia does not affect intelligence, but it can make learning and daily activities more challenging. The Foundation for Learning Disability reports that males are four times more likely to be affected than females. However, females' issues are often found at an older age. Dyspraxia isn't something anyone affected can grow out of but treatment, including occupational therapy and, more recently, tools such as dictation software, can bring so much improvement. Note: Despite sounding very similar, dyspraxia is not the same as dyslexia #AriseNursing
