We are thrilled to announce that we have been selected as a finalist in the 2024 Tourism South East Beautiful South Awards, in the category of Small Visitor Attraction. To be selected for this award is a huge testament to the hard work of the team and recognises the significant progress the Museum has made over the last few years in increasing visitor numbers, raising profile and growing our nationally significant collection. We are so proud to be able to tell the story of British Army aviation and strive to ensure it continues to be told to future generations. It is an absolute honour to be nominated for this award in our 40th Anniversary year and we can't wait to celebrate with all the other amazing attractions and businesses at the final on the 10th December. #BSTA24 #finalists #museumlife #smallvisitorattraction #teamwork #tourism #armyflying

About us
The Army Flying Museum is home to a unique collection of military aviation history, one of both international and national importance. We give a fascinating and imaginative glimpse of “soldiers in the air” and life on the Home Front. Come and see our amazing selection of historic fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft, detailed dioramas, artefacts, trophies and models which serve as a profound and inspiring tribute to the Army and their machines. There are a range of interesting and engaging activities for children to enjoy including Museum trails, puzzles, games and simulators. Located next to a busy working Army Air Corps airfield, the Museum is a great place to drop in to our popular Apache Cafe. The Museum offers a fantastic event space - we are so much more than just a museum - we hold events throughout the year in all shapes and sizes. Additionally we offer ideal facilities for corporate and business needs - just with an aviation twist! Whoever you are and whatever you need - you are sure to find the Army Flying Museum a great place to be.

We have had some brilliant bids already and really appreciate everyone's support. As an independent charity with no public funding, the Museum really is reliant on ventures such as the Silent Auction to help with our fundraising efforts. A recent flood in the Museum following torrential rain, saw our soft play area bearing the brunt, and sadly, unexpected costs such as these take funds away from other projects. If you can support us in anyway, be that with a bid for something fun and unique, or by just pressing the donate button, we really would appreciate it. #silentauction #40thanniversary #museumlife #independentcharity #fundraising

It has been a pleasure to host Veterans Awards CIC at the Museum over the last couple of days. Yesterday saw an independent panel of judges, including our CEO Lucy Johnson, deliberate and choose some fantastic winners. Today we have hosted the filming and certificate day for finalists, sponsors and all involved in the awards and it has been a real honour to celebrate the achievements of military veterans, reservists and supporting companies who deserve recognition for their success. #Veteransawards #veterans #military #museumlife #charity #veteranshelpingveterans

As we cast our minds back to an amazing Olympic games and the medal haul achieved by Team GB, we are thrilled to announce that we have also achieved a GOLD award from the Defence Employers Recognition Scheme Defence Relationship Management (DRM). We are so proud of this amazing achievement, less that two years after signing the Armed Forces Covenant. #GoldERS24 #ArmedForcesCovenant #museumlife
It seems such a short time ago that we were signing the Armed Forces Covenant back in December 2022, and yet today, I am incredibly proud to announce that the Army Flying Museum has been honoured with the Gold award from the Defence Employers Recognition Scheme. This prestigious achievement recognises our continuous commitment to support the Armed Forces Community and a wider variety of initiatives that support not only serving personnel, but also reservists, cadet forces, veterans, and military families. The award is a well-deserved recognition for the huge amount of work undertaken by the Museum team, and in particular Amanda Stallard who has been our Armed Forces Covenant Champion. As a result of our commitment, we have been able to employ and provide support to numerous team members, giving them flexibility in their working life to support their families in what can often be a rapidly changing environment. In addition, we have supported many veterans in undertaking a wide range of both employed and volunteer roles to ensure their skill base, experience and knowledge continues to be utilised and their stories never forgotten. Our ongoing commitment to providing opportunities for cadet groups is an area of which I am particularly proud and it was wonderful to give one such cadet who has worked so hard for us, the opportunity to meet His Majesty King Charles III on his recent visit to the Museum. We really do strive to do all we can to support our outstanding Armed Forces and will continue to do so. Should you be interested in knowing more, or in working with us at the Museum, then please do not hesitate to contact us. With over 11,000 businesses, charities and organisations signed up to the Armed Forces Covenant, we are always keen to encourage more. What a privilege to accept this award and what a year it has been for the Museum. #GoldERS24 #ArmedForcesCovenant #museumlife Neil Sexton CB Paul Edwards MBE FRAeS FRUSI Edward Butterworth Brendan Shaw MBE Rhonda Smith Andrew Bulpitt Paul Beaver Heather Whittam Susan Lindsay Hannah Grigson Amanda Stallard Sarah Smith Joanna Wenman Henry W.

September marks the 40th Anniversary of the Museum which will be a key time for us to fundraise. We have already been heartened by people's generosity in donating silent auction prizes for our fundraising efforts, and will launch this later in September. In addition, our volunteer Company Secretary - Andrew Simkins is kindly fundraising for the Museum with a coastal charity walk. Andrew set off to complete the South West Coast Path a couple of years ago and just like the inimitable Harold Fry, just kept on walking, as the venture progressively turned into a 2,700 miles walk around the English coast. The prospect of walking around Wales and Scotland seemed a beach too far, so instead, Andrew has walked Hadrian's Wall and Offa's Dyke to link coast to coast. Andrew has had close links with the Museum for years having been its CEO for a short while, and for the past eight years as the volunteer Company Secretary. Andrew wanted to mark the end of his challenge and expressed a wish to raise funds for the Museum linking into our 40th Anniversary. Andrew will complete his walk on Weymouth Esplanade on Sunday 27th October at 12:30pm and if you wish to support the Museum's anniversary and mark the end of his walk - anonymously if you wish - please use the link below: https://lnkd.in/eh_TNAwp #fundraising #40thanniversary #museumlife #silentauction #coastalpath
