Staff and young people at one of our homes have banded together to raise money for Dementia UK, in a show of support for some team members who have recently had family members diagnosed with dementia. The ovens were on from 5am and their 'Cuppa and Cake' event raised a terrific £170 in just a couple of hours for the specialist nursing charity that provides support and advice to everyone affected by dementia. Dementia is the umbrella term for a range of progressive disorders affecting the brain, including Alzheimer’s disease, with around 944,000 people estimated to be living with the condition in the UK. Scarily, someone develops the disease that causes changes in memory, thinking, personality and behaviour, every three minutes! #dementia #dementiauk #dementiacare #dementiaawareness #charityevent #charitywork #charityfundraiser #charity #charity #charityevent

Moving more for our mental health: that's the them of this year's Mental Health Awareness Week. Marked since 2001, Mental Health Awareness Week brings together people in education; private, public and charity ventures; health service providers and interested individuals nationwide to focus on one particular aspect of our communal mental wellbeing. And, this year, the emphasis is on regular movement (not strenuous exercise) because it's one the simplest but most important things we can do to help protect our mental health. Our bodies and our minds are connected, so looking after ourselves physically also helps us prevent problems with our mental health. Together, our staff and young people here at Arnfield have been finding out more about exercise and how it releases feel-good hormones that reduce feelings of stress and anger. We've learned that if it involves other people, in group, class or team settings, that can provide an even bigger boost to our mental health. And we've found out more about how exercise can improve our sleep too. Despite these benefits, so many of us struggle to move enough so we're always trying to find ways to help our young people find moments for movement in their daily routines.  #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #mentalhealthweek #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek #mentalhealthadvocate #mentalhealthrecovery #mentalhealthmatters #MentalWellbeing #mentalwellness #mentalhealth

Equity means creating an inclusive world. It's not just something we say once a year. It's not just something our young people are encouraged to think about once a year. It's something we all need to think about, know, value and embrace. Every Day! So as we celebrate female achievements and acknowledge the very real and ongoing struggles of women and girls worldwide, let's all remember to challenge gender stereotypes, call out discrimination, draw attention to bias, and inspire genuine inclusion. #IWD2024 #InspireInclusion #EmbraceEquity #internationalwomen #InternationalWomensDay #internationalwomensday #InternationalWomensWeek #InternationalWomensMonth #internationalwomensday2024

Get your kids involved! The Children’s Commissioner for England, Dame Rachel de Souza, has launched The Big Ambition, a national survey of children and young people across England. The survey is gathering views from children across England on what they think is important! In the lead-up to the next General Election, the Children’s Commissioner wants to take children’s thoughts, opinions and ideas to decision-makers, to make sure that the Government hears young people’s voices on what they think needs to be done to make children’s lives better in England. The anonymous survey takes around 10 minutes to complete and can be completed on mobile phones, tablets, laptops and computers and will be open until Friday 15th December.
