Last night, Emirates Stadium played host to a memorable evening as the Arsenal family and our wider community celebrated the launch of a new book, ‘Black Arsenal’. The landmark book by Dr Clive Chijioke Nwonka offers a comprehensive exploration of our distinctive connection with Black British identity and culture, thanks to decades of iconic Black players and the storied and diverse histories of our supporters on the terraces.
Providing a blend of celebration and reflection, the event marked the book’s launch and brought together distinguished guests, including a mix of Arsenal legends, cultural trailblazers, and influential figures from football, culture, and beyond.
A heartfelt homage to our deep-rooted connection with Black British culture, guests enjoyed a live DJ set by Radio 1's Jeremiah Asiamah, Caribbean cuisine and exclusive artwork inspired by the book's themes.
The event fostered engaging conversations and powerful tributes, culminating in a panel discussion led by our host for the evening Jeanette Kwakye and featuring Arsenal legends Paul Davis and Anita Asante OLY, alongside Arsenal supporter and Ezra Collective musician Femi Koleoso and Dr Clive Nwonka. The discussion considered how Arsenal has become a powerful symbol of multicultural unity, and its significance in today’s society.
Paul Davis also spoke movingly about his late friend and fellow Arsenal icon, Kevin Campbell. Paul reflected on their shared journey at the club and Kevin's lasting impact on Arsenal.
Thank you to those who have shared their stories and contributed to the book, and to those who attended and brought so much joy to a special evening.
