We believe that every person matters and it is our aim to ensure that every person who needs hospice care can get it.

About us

Ashgate Hospice is a charity (no. 700636) that provides compassionate, specialist palliative and end of life care, free of charge, to patients with a life-limiting illness and their families across North Derbyshire. For patients with the most complex needs, we have an Inpatient Unit. However, most of our patients are cared for at home by our team of specialist nurses, specialist therapists and healthcare professionals. This enables them to stay where they feel most comfortable for as long as possible. We are not an NHS hospice. Less than 30% of our total income comes from local NHS health budgets. Every £1 donated to Ashgate Hospicecare – whether through participating in an event or donating or buying items in our shops - makes a huge difference. Thank you for your continued support. We wouldn’t be here without it.

  • “Running every day for over two months is on a whole new level. This challenge is definitely the most extreme thing I’ve ever done.” Arran Jaiswal is taking on the most epic challenge of running 55 half marathons in 55 days! 👟 Arran started the extreme feat on 20 February to raise money towards our compassionate care. The challenge will see him running 13.1 miles (21km) a day until 15 April. Arran, who owns a recruitment business based in Nottingham, has managed to fit his runs around other commitments, often running in the mornings before starting his working day. He said the time difference with the USA, where his clients are based, has been helpful, allowing him to juggle his job, the school run, and the half marathon challenge. Read the full story on our website: https://shorturl.at/Bnjqu Good luck, Arran! Pictured: Arran Jaiswal. #Running #Marathons #Challenge #AshgateHospice

On Monday, we welcomed Toby Perkins MP to Ashgate, where he met with our Chair, Chris Hallam, our Chief Executive, Barbara-Anne Walker, and Deputy Chief Executive, Matt Corbishley, to discuss the financial challenges hospices like Ashgate are facing. We thanked him for the Government’s £100 million hospice fund, from which we’ve received £211,820 this year. While this funding is welcome, it can only be used for capital improvements – not for running costs, care, or staff wages. At Ashgate, it has covered the cost of refurbishing our Day Services space, Clinic rooms, and Main Reception, alongside £290,000 secured from Trusts and Grants, businesses and supporters. His visit was an important opportunity to highlight the ongoing pressures we face. Despite this funding, we continue to rely on the generosity of our community – the people who take part in fundraising events, shop with us, or donate. End of life care is essential and shouldn’t have to be funded in this way. We’ll keep working with MPs, local commissioners, and Hospice UK to push for a fair and sustainable funding agreement, so hospices like ours receive the support they need. • We’re incredibly grateful to BRM Solicitors for their continued support! Thanks to the generosity of their team and clients, they raised an incredible £17,515 during their will month in 2024 — adding to a staggering total of support over the years, for which we are immensely thankful. 💜 We’re pleased to share that their next will month takes place this April. 📆 Once again, they will waive their usual fees, offering free wills for our supporters in exchange for a voluntary donation of £75. To book an appointment, please contact their Chesterfield office at 01246 555 111. One in six of our patients receive the compassionate care they need thanks to gifts left in wills.
