This week at the UK Labour Party Conference in Liverpool, Asia House hosted Douglas Alexander MP, the UK Minister of State for Trade Policy and Economic Security, for a focused fringe discussion on UK-Gulf trade relations, in partnership with the Labour Middle East Council (LMEC).   The Minister shared insights from his recent visit to Saudi Arabia and Oman, discussing opportunities for UK companies in the GCC region and how these markets can enhance UK trade and economic growth.    He also highlighted the progress being made in the UK-GCC FTA negotiations, underlining the potential impact this agreement could have on expanding trade and investment between the UK and the Gulf.   Read more here:   https://lnkd.in/epk-vRbf   #asia #asiahouse #uk

Asia House Chief Executive Michael Lawrence OBE chaired a highly engaging discussion with Catherine West MP, UK Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Indo-Pacific), at the Labour Party Annual Conference in Liverpool. Among them, Prabowo Subianto will be inaugurated as Indonesia's next President following his decisive election victory in February. In her latest analysis, Asia House's Indonesia Advisor Sandra Sahelangi anticipates a smooth transition on 20 October. AGBI - Arabian Gulf Business Insight has quoted Asia House in an article announcing Thailand's opening of an investment office in Saudi Arabia. In July, Thailand’s Board of Investment (BOI) announced that it was opening its first Middle East office in Saudi Arabia, signaling a further deepening of economic ties between the nations after a longstanding diplomatic dispute ended in 2022. "The UAE is Thailand’s largest Gulf trading partner. However, the London-based Asia House think tank said it expected restored diplomatic ties to boost Thai trade with Saudi Arabia, which grew 38 percent in 2023 to about $10 billion." AGBI - Arabian Gulf Business Insight has quoted Asia House on India-UAE relations, in an article analysing India's push for more rupee-dirham payment in trade with the UAE. ”Encouraging the greater use of dirhams and rupees by Indian banks in servicing UAE-India cross border trade could encourage trade growth,” Freddie Neve, Senior Middle East associate at Asia House, said. Last week, Asia House held a virtual roundtable in partnership with the Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business to explore the growing digital cooperation between China and the Gulf.    The roundtable convened experts and business leaders across China and the Gulf’s digital economies.
