ABP News Release: ABP announces new Chair Jonathan Lewis in succession to Dr Phil Nolan. Jonathan (Jon) Lewis, ABP’s Chair Designate, said: “I’m excited to be taking on the Chair role at Associated British Ports. As an island nation, ports have been vital to the UK for millennia. But their importance and contribution has never been greater as they maintain their historic role as our main gateways for global trade and play an increasingly pivotal new role as enablers of the energy transition. “The opportunity to join ABP, the sector leader, and continue the transformation of the company and its portfolio is exciting, and I look forward to working with the Board, Henrik and the Executive Team to deliver on the strategy.” Henrik Lundgaard Pedersen, Chief Executive Officer of ABP, said: “The Board and Company of ABP extends its huge thanks to Phil for successfully steering ABP through seven transformational years as Chair, during which Phil has steered ABP through the challenges of the COVID pandemic, Brexit and major global supply chain upheavals. Despite these challenges ABP has continued to grow and thrive, with the Board under Phil’s leadership supporting a programme of ambitious investment and increased involvement with the green energy sector. “We look forward to welcoming Jon as Chair. His deep experience of businesses in the major infrastructure and capital projects delivery sectors will be invaluable to ABP. In particular his engagement with the energy transition through his roles at AmecFosterWheeler and Equinor is directly applicable to ABP’s green growth mission, a key to our future success.” Read the full news release here: https://lnkd.in/gYYgtDYy ABP is the UK’s leading ports group, with 21 ports handling a quarter of the UK’s seaborne trade worth £150bn+ to the UK economy and supporting over 200,000 jobs across the UK. As the school holidays approach and on World Drowning Prevention Day, we want to highlight that swimming and jumping into the water in our ports, docks and harbours is dangerous and strictly prohibited. Docks are not a safe place to swim. There are risks from hidden dangers beneath the water, they are often busy industrial centres, and if you enter the water, it is often difficult to get out. If you see someone in trouble in the water, follow these simple instructions: CALL: 999 TELL: them to float on their back THROW: them something that floats #respectthewater #drowningprevention

💬 "We've now got a really prosperous, excellent future to look forward to because of the energy industry," said Tom Duit, Operations Manager at ABP about the Port of Lowestoft. ABP is proud to be part of this transformative journey for the Port of Lowestoft into becoming a hub for supporting the offshore energy industry, and specifically through its £35m investment in the Lowestoft Eastern Energy Facility (LEEF). BBC's Ben Schofield recently visited Lowestoft to learn more about this investment in state-of-the-art infrastructure, which is tailored to the offshore energy industry’s latest requirements, and creates a highly competitive offer for the region: 📺 Watch on BBC iPlayer here: https://lnkd.in/egXxEgbn (⏱ 17:13). 📰 You can also read more in Ben's article on the ScottishPower Renewables and Siemens Gamesa apprentices who are looking at offshore wind for their careers, which is available here: https://lnkd.in/eHXGTDEg #EnablingEnergyTransition #ReadyForTomorrow #Lowestoft #EastAnglia #CoastalEconomy #OffshoreEnergy #OffshoreWind #Apprenticeships #Renewables #Investment

The Port of Southampton was delighted to welcome Pablo Rodriguez, Canada's Minister of Transport, and Arun Thangaraj, Canada's Deputy Minister of Transport, for a briefing and tour of the port. We hope that the Ministers were able to get a good sense of the scale and ambition of the UK’s #1 deep sea port for trade and Europe’s #1 cruise turnaround port. We were also able to show the Ministers our commitment to sustainable operations, including being the first UK port to deploy shore power at scale. This enables cruise vessels to “plug in” when alongside to achieve zero emissions at berth. As part of the visit, Paul Bristowe, ABP Chief of Staff and Tom Dynes, ABP Southampton General Manager, Landside Operations, presented the Minister with our Southampton plaque as a memento of his trip to the UK. #trade #internationaltrade #port #collaboration #sustainability #readyfortomorrow

We pride ourselves on safety and so when our team in the Humber International Terminal needed to address an issue they came together and responded. A piece of kit was needed which would allow crews to safely loosen set materials of agribulk cargoes in storage. It was developed in partnership with Agriweld Ltd, an East Yorkshire firm specialising in agricultural machinery and attachments. The result was a nine metre breaker to loosen the materials when solid in a sheer face. ABP Southampton proudly sponsors the Net Zero Navigator Maritime UK Solent Award. The deadline for entries is approaching fast, and we cannot wait to hear which local companies are shortlisted for the award. The journey to net zero is important to ABP. Last year, we launched our Ready for Tomorrow sustainability strategy, showing our commitment to achieving net zero from our operations by 2040 and partnering with organisations to support the UK’s clean energy transition. This year, we launched a new mission that sits nicely with Keeping Britain Trading: Enabling the Energy Transition. Why sponsor the Net Zero Navigator Award? We are keen to work with and showcase local organisations that share our ambition for the energy transition. The deadline for entries is Sunday 28 July. https://lnkd.in/ehJ77jQD #cleanmaritime #netzero #maritime #awards #readyfortomorrow #enablingtheengerytransition
