Association for Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP)
Construction
The ASFP aims to advance knowledge on all aspects of passive fire protection and to improve standards and competence
About us
The Association for Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP) was formed in 1975 in recognition of a need to bring together passive fire protection manufacturers, contractors and testing/certification bodies to encourage, develop and give guidance on essential standards in passive fire protection. The ASFP serves and represents the needs of its members and the wider passive fire protection industry, by raising standards and competence through training, testing, certification and quality of installation and maintenance. It aims to advance knowledge and guidance on all aspects of ‘built-in’ fire protection; provide technical support and impartial advice; lead regulatory and behavioural change as an independent authority; and improve competence and quality through training.

We’re closing out the Association for Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP) & Fire Industry Association Ireland Seminar with a joint Q&A session, bringing together this afternoon’s speakers for one final opportunity to engage with attendees. Using Slido, participants are submitting live questions to explore the key themes raised throughout the day - from regulatory developments and competence, to the evolving interface between passive and active fire protection in the Irish context. It’s been a day full of knowledge sharing, industry collaboration, and forward-thinking conversations. Thank you to everyone who joined us, our exhibitors Bolster Systems Limited, Warringtonfire, Coopers Fire, ROCKWOOL UK, Advanced, Kentec Electronics, Honeywell, Eurotech Fire Systems Ltd, and C-TEC (Computionics Limited) and all attendees who asked questions, and contributed to what has been a truly valuable seminar!

Our final presentation of the afternoon was a joint panel hosted by Will Lloyd, bringing together fire protection experts to discuss the needs of the Irish fire industry and how passive and active fire protection must work hand-in-hand. The panel session explored: - Current challenges in integration between passive and active systems - Gaps in training and product understanding across disciplines - Unique regulatory and industry needs in Ireland - Opportunities for greater collaboration between manufacturers, installers, and regulators #FireSafety #PassiveFireProtection #ActiveFireProtection

The first presentation of the afternoon, Andrew Taylor, ASFP’s Head of Technical, delivered an insightful presentation on the relationship between Construction Products Regulations (CPR) and Building Regulations, and what it means for fire safety in Ireland. He explained how the EU CPR is designed for consistency of products across Europe, not necessarily for safety - and how only a limited number of Passive Fire Protection products (like dampers) have harmonised standards.

The first half of the day concluded with a thought-provoking Q&A session, where delegates had the chance to engage directly with our expert speakers. From competence frameworks and legal compliance to fire strategy implementation and lithium-ion battery risks! Huge thanks to Kate Milford, Ian Moore OBE, David Quinn, Peter McKay, and Will Lloyd for sharing their knowledge and perspectives so openly. The morning sessions set a strong foundation for the rest of the day - bringing collaboration, clarity and practical solutions to the forefront of fire protection in Ireland.
