We’re joined by leaders from across the rare disease community at the World Orphan Drug Congress Europe to explore how policies and practices across diverse nations can enable more timely, more accessible, and more equitable care for more people living with rare diseases. With high and rising global burden, chronic kidney disease (CKD) is expected to become the world’s fifth leading cause of mortality by 2040. The time for change is now. With the NCD Alliance Global Week for Action on NCDs (non-communicable diseases) underway, it is essential that we continue to elevate CKD as a priority NCD, advocating for stronger global and national commitments to address this growing burden. Quality and timely healthcare remain out of reach for too many people, even though health is the foundation of a sustainable and thriving society. Stefan Werner Weber, Vice President, Head of Global Policy, Advocacy and Health Equity at AstraZeneca, discusses this challenge in ‘Health: a Political Choice - Building Resilience and Trust’ calling for concerted efforts to tackle the issue by harnessing data, digital technologies and the power of public-private partnership. Everyone, everywhere, deserves the chance to live a healthy life, regardless of who they are or where they were born. At AstraZeneca, we are working to better understand factors that drive poor health outcomes among different populations and partnering with health systems and communities to bring tailored solutions to close equity gaps. #HealthEquity #InterConnectedHealth #Sustainability

Someone dies prematurely from a non-communicable disease (NCD), like a respiratory or cardiovascular disease, every two seconds, even though these diseases are largely preventable. As part of the World Health Summit, Iskra Reic, Executive Vice President, Vaccines & Immune Therapies, published an article in ‘Health: a Political Choice - Building Resilience and Trust’ calling for investment, innovation, collaboration and evidence-based policy reform, including: - Acting urgently to address the growing burden of NCDs, by looking beyond individuals and health systems, to the impact on economies and the climate-health nexus. - Acting early by shifting from ‘sick care’ to ‘health care’ that focuses on screening and early detection and treatment of disease. - Acting for equity, by understanding the barriers to healthcare that certain communities face and ensuring their needs are central to the delivery of care At AstraZeneca, we are working to address the growing burden of NCDs in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The 2025 High-Level Meeting on NCDs provides a critical opportunity for concerted and collective action. Link to the full article: https://learn.az/6046qTv74 #WHS2024 #InterConnectedHealth #NCDs
