We visited Huntercombe prison to meet with the inmates taking our Stoic course and hear first-hand their personal experience and transformation brought about through Stoic learning. Stoicism represents learning for Life - an opportunity for these inmates to assemble their own mental building blocks and challenge their thoughts/habits during their sentence. Former inmate Jay Adam turned over a new leaf after discovering Stoicism during his sentence, he'll be joining us on 16 November at our in-person event in Oxford to share his story..want to know more? Last week we welcomed Justin Stead and Dr John Sellars from The Aurelius Foundation, who spoke about the philosophy of stoicism at the first Sixth Form lecture of the year. The Aurelius Foundation shares the principles of Stoic philosophy with multiple spectrums of society, including business, prisons and young people, to help them consider how they might plan their journey through life to live with deeper purpose and contribute to the greater good. “Stoicism helps reorganise one’s past, helps set future priorities/purpose for one’s future, and when these are completed, allows for beautiful living in the present,” says founder Justin. John is a lecturer in Philosophy at Royal Holloway, University of London, a Visiting Fellow at King's College London and a member of Wolfson College, Oxford. He is the author of The Art of Living: The Stoics on the Nature and Function of Philosophy, Stoicism, Hellenistic Philosophy and Lessons in Stoicism. Angie Hobbs, Professor of the Public Understanding of Philosophy at the University of Sheffield, has a remarkable ability in making philosophical discourse accessible to us all and framing ancient Stoic ideas in our modern reality. Angie's guidance in shaping our understanding of leadership today presents a strong and compelling argument for Marcus Aurelius as our role model for modern times. Marcus Aurelius, the Philosopher-King, continues to be the leadership role model we can and should follow! Thank you Angie for joining us! 👏👏
