Today is Workplace Gender Equality Agency's #EqualPayDay. It’s 50 days into the new financial year which marks the number of extra days women must work to earn the same, on average, as men did last year. As Australia continues its journey towards gender equality, we are urging all Australians to have a 'super' conversation this Equal Pay Day. “Women, on average, earn $230 less per week than men, significantly impacting their lifetime earnings, superannuation savings and retirement security. “We think this important conversation needs to extend to the long-term impact on women’s superannuation balances and ultimately their financial security in retirement. Australian women should have the same retirement outcomes as men,” said AustralianSuper Chief Member Officer Rose Kerlin. The disparity in earnings has a significant impact on the retirement savings of women with the average super balance of women aged between 60 and 64 23% lower than that of men. So, this Equal Pay Day, start a conversation with your employer – do they offer regular pay reviews, super on paid parental leave or flexible working? It’s important you are equipped with the right information and can access the support that is available. If you have a partner also have a conversation with them about superannuation. For example, if you take parental leave down the track, your partner may be able to make contributions to your super. On Monday it’s #EqualPayDay, which provides a great opportunity to reflect on what it means to be committed to achieving gender equality in our workplace. Monday will be 50 days into the new financial year which is significant because it marks the number of extra days women must work to earn the same, on average, as men did last year. “AustralianSuper is committed to further reducing the gender pay gap and increasing representation of women in senior roles to achieve this goal. In February 2024, the Workplace Gender Equality Agency published organisations’ gender pay gaps, which reflected the Fund’s median base pay gap at 7.1%, down from 9.1% in the previous year’s WGEA Gender Equality Report. Ultimately, AustralianSuper aspires to have zero pay gap,” said Michele Glover, Chief Colleague Officer. To help bridge the gender pay gap, AustralianSuper is proud to offer: 👉 20 weeks of paid parental leave with no qualifying period and no distinction between primary and secondary carers. 👉 Continued superannuation contributions for parents on parental leave at the full-time rate for 104 weeks. 👉 AustralianSuper recruitment shortlists are mandated to have 40% female, 40% male, 20% any gender and all interview panels must be gender balanced. 👉 A Blended Working clause was embedded in AustralianSuper’s Enterprise Agreement that enables flexible working between the Fund office and the colleague’s office, without mandating defined working days/hours required in the Fund’s office. 👉 In 2024, AustralianSuper was recognised as an Employer of Choice for Gender Equality by the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) for 13 consecutive years.
