About us

ADSA establishes and promotes standards of safety, quality, reliability and after-sales service as an assurance to both specifiers and users. ADSA member companies supply over 80% of the UK market. They can advise on every aspect of automatic doors, from the initial selection and specification, through to installation in order to ensure that clients end up with the right type of door for their particular requirements. ADSA has developed the BS EN 16005 examination to ensure that member’s employees understand and comply with it, the resulting Authorised Technician qualification is the only industry standard recognised across the construction industry, local authorities and automatic door users. Automatic doors are now a normal feature of all building types, large and small. They come in a variety of types, including sliding, swing, folding and revolving, what they all must do is conform to the highest standards of safety for the user. This is where the ADSA - Automatic Door Suppliers Association - plays a vital role.

  • "PLUS ÇA CHANGE" SAY THE FRENCH.  It means something like: "the more things change, the more they stay the same." And there have certainly been immense changes across the powered pedestrian door sector since the ADSA was formed in 1985, going on to develop the first industry-wide code of practice. Now, 40 years later, we can look back and chart the development of that document which became, through various revisions and improvements, the EN 16005:2023 Standard we work with today. ADSA also sits on CEN (the European Committee for Standardisation), promoting the interests of the UK powered pedestrian door industry and making sure Standards which are applied here are more than just fit for purpose but provide state-of-the art safety solutions. Our Technical & Training manager, Darren Hyde, is chair of the British Standards Institution’s working group on powered pedestrian door safety. And last year we answered 301 technical enquiries from members, many of whom were already on site, delivered training to more than 600 learners as well as re-launching our online learning and resources portal (the ADSA Academy) and seeing 20 Apprentices through to completion of their courses. But as we prepare now for our 40th anniversary, we all know we are facing huge and evolving environmental, societal and technological changes which could impact our industry in ways as yet unimagined. But the more things change, the more they stay the same. And the ADSA will always stay true to its founding principles of: ➡️ Always doing the right thing for our members, for our industry and for end users. ➡️Openly sharing knowledge and expertise to raise standards in our industry. ➡️Always being transparent, inclusive and trustworthy. ➡️And our core purpose of being the central hub for the powered pedestrian door industry, driving safety, standards and education will, also, never change. But for now, we'd like to wish all our members and their teams, all our suppliers and all our industry partners a happy, health and prosperous New Year. Or, as our friends on the other side of the Channel would say: "Bonne année à vous!" Et joyeux anniversaire à nous! (which means: “and happy birthday to us”!) 🎂

  • BOOM! SHAKE-SHAKE-SHAKE THE ROOM! TIC-TIC-TIC-TIC BOOM! HOW'D YOU LIKE THAT FOR SOME CHRISTMAS WRAPPING!!!!! (Insert apologies to DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince here). Check out this totally stunning new wrap for the latest vehicle at Wood Security Systems, one of our ADSA members based in the West Midlands. She had the whole ADSA team cooing when the photos came in from director Adam Wood who was also good enough to supply some images of the van undergoing the wrapping process at Fugo Graphics (www.fugographics.com) of Darlaston, West Mids. And so, we are more than happy to award Adam and Wood Security the honour of Christmas Van Of The Week! Adam has also raised the bar for VOTW photos too . . . check out the soft focus foregrounding he's applied while the van and business premises remain tack-sharp to set the scene of the van's home in its urban environs, roofrack loaded and ready to start business. And take time too, to appreciate the dawn-time lighting Adam's used . . . it pops to full potential this Ford Transit's lime, gunmetal and Wood Security blue (which happily matches our ADSA blue 😁). Thank you so much Adam for taking so much trouble with your photography – we do appreciate that. Moving on to what we're here to admire first and foremost, the vehicle itself: we begin at road level with lustful gazes at those sicko spoked noir allys, reminiscent of the Austin Healy and Aston Martin wired wheels of yesteryear but with more drip style than GQ could shake a Best Dressed Man Of The Year award at. Moving onwards and upwards we take in the subtle sideskirt spoliers (one suspects a custom aero kit in play here) and tinted rear-light clusters which key with the rims and provide the foundation for the gunmetal wrap and total colour explosion (there’s no other word for it) of Wood Security lime which splashes over the front and rear of the van. It’s an audacious colourway but delivered here with precision and panache . . . Pininfarina would be (lime) green with envy! But it’s not all about style . . . this is a working vehicle so opposing sliders and partially de-badged rear doors offer instant and easy interior access while a roof rack provides additional options. However, actually a lot of it is about style and image isn’t it? And from head on, a predatory profile is revealed featuring dipped-in feline-feeling headlights (tinted, natch) and – surely not, noooo, it can’t be, not carbon fibre side-splitter front-bumper canards? It’s too much I tell you, it’s too much! I can’t deal! She just so preedy!!!!! Now I've had a lie down (phew) it only remains to say that from the VOTW desk hear at the ADSA, we’d like to wish a sincere Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all our members. Please remember: LET’S STAY SAFE ON THE ROAD, ON SITE, IN THE OFFICE AND ALWAYS! Please send your 2025 Van Of The Week pictures and stories to andy@adsa.org.uk . If we get enough high-calibre entries we’ll run a Van Of The Year competition!

  • Andy Pegg. It is with great sadness that we write this morning to advise of the passing of our ex Automatic Door Suppliers Association colleague Andy Pegg. Andy died last week after a short illness. Andy spent many years working in the powered pedestrian door industry developing a really successful career with high profile companies such as Kaba, Gilgen, Record/ Blasi, GEZE UK and most recently as an Operations Manager at the Secured Division of Facilities Management provider Trios. Andy was one of the first to be employed here at the ADSA and in his time he worked extremely hard to establish our Authorised Technicians Training and Exam and investigated the Door, Gate and Shutter Systems NVQ as a measure of competence in our industry. As a trainer he was keen to impart his knowledge and had the ability to communicate and engage at all levels. When he wasn't working Andy had a passion for the outdoors and his Wife Sally (who he loved dearly) has shared with us her favourite picture of Andy riding his horse Max. Several of us here at the Association had the pleasure of working alongside Sally at GEZE UK and we know how much she will be grieving at this time. Our deepest sympathies are with Sally and the whole family. A celebration of Andy's life will take place at Telford Crematorium on Thursday 5th December at 10:30 AM for anyone wishing to pay their respects. Andy, Rest in Peace, our industry will miss your knowledge and your enthusiasm for training and developing others.

  • WHEN YOU'RE GOOD AT SOMETHING, IT'S IMPORTANT YOU TELL YOURSELF YOU'RE GOOD . . . AND YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME! Today, Wednesday November 13th, is National Engineering Day - a brilliant excuse to pat yourselves and your colleagues on the back and remind yourselves of the great job you do in keeping people safe and helping them to live full lives. Without the autodoor industry and the wonderful installation, maintenance and safety work you all do, how would those people with physical impairments or disabilities ever be able to access public buildings like hospitals and GP surgeries, council offices or even the supermarket? Without you good people, how could those people ever do the things we tend to take for granted . . . like going to school or college or university? The cinema? The coffee shop? Do you ever reflect on how - without your knowledge and expertise and professionalism – we would ever be able to keep those with Special Educational Needs and Disablities (SEND) safe at school for instance? Or how we would protect other vulnerable people in secure accommodation (like our elderly mums and dads for instance)? And that's what it comes down to . . . keeping people safe and helping them live full lives. And you guys make sure that can happen. So happy National Engineering Day to one and all from the ADSA 💙 #adsaproffessionaldevelopment #adsa #theadsa #professionaldevelopment #lifelonglearning #learningjourney #learnerjourney #continuousprofessionaldevelopment #CPD #autodoor #autodoors #autodoorsafety #autodoorssafety #poweredpedestriandoor #poweredpedestriandoors #poweredpedestriandoorsafety #poweredpedestriandoorssafety #adsafamily
