So great to see HarvestEye Ltd In action!
Did you know that potatoes are vegetatively propagated? What does that mean? The potato itself is cut into seed pieces which are then used to produce potatoes for consumption. The multi-generational seed production process is much longer for potato than crops which use true seed. Furthermore, vegetative propagation presents challenges from viruses, fungi, bacteria, and environmental stress. This week Jill Davidson and I have been working with an optical sensor from HarvestEye Ltd to assess samples for size distribution. Size is a critical component of high-quality seed, so we collaborate with our suppliers to achieve the optimum size distribution. #agronomy #seed #varietydevelopment
